North of Somewhere: All Grown Up – (Chapter: One In the Same…)

Spencer wasn’t surprised when she found that her face was wet with tears. She wasn’t surprised that Ashley still had the power to illicit from her any emotion she wanted. And as Ashley sang out the last line to her song, her fingers moving quickly over guitar strings and reminding Spencer of when those same fingers used to slowly crawl inside of her, she wasn’t surprised that she was reminded at that moment that she was the one. She had always been the one, and Spencer had always known that, not matter how hard she fought it.

The crowd went crazy as Ashley played the last chord, and seeing her familiar smile made Spencer smile too. The brunette thanked the crowd, glanced at Spencer, and made her way quickly off of the stage and into the sea of people before her. Spencer tried desperately to follow her with her eyes, but it was impossible. She was gone.

“Well,” Lindsay said with a smirk, “that was interesting.”

“How do you know her?” Shelly asked, her hand on Spencer’s shoulder.

Before Spencer could answer, Lindsay cut in, “Oh, we went to high school with her a long time ago.”

“Yeah, that’s true. But I also used to…”

“Spence, I have to go to the restroom,” Lindsay said, a fake smile plastered across her face.

“Um…good for you?” Spencer said, confused.

“Will you come with me? You know how much I hate going by myself.”

Spencer nodded and followed Lindsay into the dark, crowded restroom of the bar.

“What are you doing out there?” Lindsay asked once they were safe inside.

“What do you mean? I’m not doing anything.”

“Exactly! You have a hot girl out there who’s totally into you and Ashley walks in and suddenly you completely lose it! Not cool. Get it together. You two are over. You have to move on and what better way to do it than with someone like Shelly?”

    “Shelly’s not Ashley.”

    “Thank God.”

Spencer shook her head, “You don’t understand…you just…you don’t understand me. Maybe you never have.”

“I don’t understand you?” Lindsay asked, her smile cruel and insincere, “I don’t understand you?”

    “Sometimes I wonder, Lindsay. That’s all. It’s not a big deal. Look, I’m sorry. It’s just that…”

“No, no, no. Wait a second, Spence. What part of you do you think is so intense and deep and interesting that I don’t get you? See, that’s what annoys me. You’ve always thought you were so much better than everyone else. But you know what? You’re not. You and I are one in the same. Don’t you get it, Spencer? I knew that just by saying I might still be in love with you I could make you doubt your love for Ashley. I did it ten years ago. I did it four months ago. And it still fucking works.”

Spencer took a deep breath, confused and hurt by the words pouring out of Lindsay’s mouth, “Why are you doing this?”

“Because I’m finally bored. Because screwing with you has finally lost it’s excitement for me. Now Ashley doesn’t want to have anything to do with you, I certainly don’t want you, and you’re alone. Just like me. But I guess it’s not surprising. We’re both people who screw other people over. It’s just what we do.”

    “I’m nothing like you. You’re a…you’re…”

“I’m done. Good luck, Spencer Carlin. Looks like you’ll need it,” Lindsay said, exiting the bathroom and leaving a broken Spencer behind.

    1. Hmmmmmm if i didnt hate Lindsey before i sure do now, that was so harsh and you are like the best writer ever. I stayed up waiting for an update when I should be sleeping cuz i got summer school. Man who thought flirting all through my history class would make me fail but what can i say my class mates are HOTT like this one blonde she has the best ass i have ever seen, sorry I’m rambling. Anywho… update or else I’ll tell my mommy on you.

    2. Okay, I officially hate Lindsay! I KNEW she didn’t have real feelings for Spencer; she just wanted to mess Spencer and Ashley’s relationship up. The worst part is that Spencer keeps falling for it. I’m kind of mad at Spencer because she keeps messing up her relationship with Ashley. Oh how I love Spashley together though. I need them to be together. I hope Spencer finds a way to make Ashley realize that she is absolutely the one for her.

    3. I for one have hated Lindsey from the very first time I heard her name. And if possible I hate her even more. She effing messed with Spencer’s heart causing her to doubt the love she had for Ashley…totally pisses me off. Spencer pursue Ashley with all your heart and don’t stop until she’s yours forever…impressive writing full of intoxicating passion and sadness, bravo!…pms
