It’s never about what I wanted – (Chapter: Who am I?)

“That’s a pretty impressive castle your building there.” She said in the most encouraging voice she could manage. Glens face reflected his mentality, he had the face of a four year old, a very angry four year old. He scolded at her and turned his attention back to the blocks. She knew she should have suspected this would happen. Despite all his mental problems and hang-ups Glen still knew that is sister had not been to see him in a long time.

“Glen, please look at me,” she asked him softly, “I’m so sorry I haven’t come to see you, lately.”

She reached out to brush some of his ever longer hair out of his face but he pushed her hand away, turning his back to her completely to her and returning to his blocks.

This was so much more then she was capable of handling. She swore to herself and to Madison that she wouldn’t shed another tear for Ashley Davies. But as the tears began to roll down her cheeks she realized that the tears she had been holding in weren’t for Ashley at all. They were for what she had lost. She had lost her best friend, lover and soul mate in Ashley, but she’d also let herself lose who she was. She wasn’t the kind of girl who picked up random women fucked them and then left them in the middle of the night. She wasn’t the kind of girl who left her friends high and dry to pick up the work she had left when she took her abrupt leave of absents. Above all else Spencer Carlin was not the kind of person who would abandon her family.

‘But you did,’ she thought bitterly, ‘you just forgot about Glen and how much he needs you.’

The combination of that thought and her already flowing tears made her gasp out loud. She stood up to leave before she completely lost it, but before she could get all the way off the ground a hand reach out to stop her. Blinking away the blur in her eyes she saw that Glen was looking at her. His face reminded her of a time before all this had happened. Before Glen’s drug addiction and overdose, before Ashley. When Glen was just her silly big brother holding her in his arms comforting her after she first came out and people at school were harassing her and he was telling her that no matter what happened, no matter what people thought about her, or said to her, that no one but her could make her be ashamed of who she was.

In that moment looking at Glen she felt like she had her brother back, if only for a moment. But that moment was all it took. She needed to get her life back, to find herself again. Ashley had hurt her more deeply then she ever thought anyone could, but she was still alive and she needed to start to live again.
