It’s never about what I wanted – (Chapter: Truth will set you free)

She needed to get her life back, to find herself again. Ashley had hurt her more deeply then she ever thought anyone could, but she was still alive and she needed to start to live again.

Ashley had been staring at the door in front of her for over two hours willing herself to gain the strength to knock. Knowing that this was it, this moment would change everything. If the truth could really set you free, she was about to find out.

The thought that no matter what she said or did now Spencer may still not forgive her, stopped her rising fist each time before it could hit the door. The idea that Spencer might not think she was worth all she would have to risk by being with Ashley, caused tremors to rise up and down her spine.

Closing her eyes Ashley attempted to center herself. She thought back to Spencer’s voice whispering love into her ear, to Spencer’s slow broad smile, to the feel of her soft lips against her own.

Taking a deep breath Ashley knocked on the door so lightly she was afraid it wouldn’t be heard. Just as she was about to knock again the door opened and her heart leaped up to her throat in a choking knot.

    ————–

Spencer had been sitting quietly at her desk going over some work that Aiden had been nice enough to drop off, when a quiet knocking on the door stirred her from her concentration.

She had been working hard since her visit to Glen the day before to make up all of the work she had missed in her second absents in the last few months. She was determined to get back to the hard working, warm hearted, laugh out loud for no reason girl she had been before the whole mess with Ashley had started.

Opening the door she was surprised by what she saw.

Aiden, her best friend for the better part of her life, was standing at her door soaking wet from the rain outside, but she could tell the moisture on his cheeks came from his bloodshot eyes and not the sky.
