    I Know What You Are

"No, I'm actually shocked."She said, laying her stuff across the dining room table. "It's just that your mom and you were so close and-"I stopped her.

"Well, would you look at the time. I believe I have some homework to do."

Were. There's the key word. Nothing was the same, and I was trying to make the best of it. This place helped. It really did. And I was glad. I wasn't locking myself up, nor was I acting up and lashing out either.

"Did you meet any new friends?"Amy called from the kitchen.

"Yeah."I called back. "Alyssa Fisher and Jenna Hunt were really nice."

"How about any of the guys?"She asked, "Any of them interesting?"

"It's only my first day."I complained, picking up my stuff and tossin git into my bag. "But there is a couple of guys that are in our group."

"Yeah. Alyssa's a good kid, she attracts a lot of people."

"Yep. She is."I explained. "Whenever she wants to go do something crazy, they know the right place."

"Sounds very…convient."Amy said, pausing. I wondered what she thinking, she probably knows everyone in town and their families. That was a very very inconvient thing for me. This entire town of Forks was to small to have secrets, everyone knew what somebody was up to even if they didn't even know it. I sighed. And this is where I insisted on living.

The next day at school, I sat at the usual table.

"So…we all are going to go hiking tonight. Want to come?"Alyssa asked, her eyes brightening.

    "Yeah, sure."Why not?

"So were can we pick you up?"Alyssa asked, taking a bit of her pizza.

"Edge of town. I live with my aunt, Amy Richardson."I told her, she looked at me, eyes large.

"You just live with your aunt?"I nodded, taking a sip from the Pepsi sitting in front of me. "What about your parents?"That stung. I sallowed hard, trying to get rid of the lump that formed in my throat.

Come on, come on! I thought, panicking. What was I going to tell her? That my parents were eaten? Yeah. Right. I would forever more be mentally ill in their minds. And that's just what I needed, wasn't it? I shifted uncomfortably in my chair, coming up with a quick little white lie. I looked around for some inspiration and rested my eyes on a pink support breast cancer poster. Okay, there's one. I quickly scanned my eyes through out the rest of the cafeteria. Outside, a semi rolled by. There's the other. I tried not to smile, even though it took me forever to come up with a lie to tell Alyssa and others who were half waiting for me.
