Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch. 22: Killin’ Time, Killin’ Nerves.)

"Hey, just sayin’," Ashley laughed. "Now let’s get on with the trip, shall we? I want outta here!"

LAX…Damn, there were a lot of people there. The Carlins plus one were sitting in the waiting area outside their gate; their flight was delayed. Paula was pissed sitting in a silent huff, Arthur was challenging his brain with a crossword from the paper, Glen was shooting things on his PSP, Clay was reading, and the girls were listening to Ashley’s iPod.

The car ride to the airport was eerie silent and very tense. Since the Carlins had a normal sized car, Spencer sat on Ashley’s lap in the back. The brunette could sense heated stares from the passenger seat in the front. Paula probably didn’t enjoy seeing that girl’s arms around her daughter’s waist. At least they could say it was safety precaution as an excuse.

"I’m booooored…" the brunette whined as she slumped down in her chair, accidentally yanking the ear bud from the other girl’s ear.

    "Ow," Spencer rubbed her ear.

Ashley scrunched up her nose, "Sorry."

"S’alright. Man, this is so dull. How long have we been sitting here?"

"Too long," the smaller girl deadpanned.

"Let’s see," the blonde started, "our flight was originally at 7:30. We’re delayed, so they’re now saying around 9ish." She grunted, "What time is it now?"

Ashley pulled out her cell phone-still in her slumped position. "Like 8."

    "God damn it…"

    The brunette gasped, "Language, Spencer!"

Spencer narrowed her eyes at her girlfriend and then laughed shortly. "You wanna go walk around and see if there’s anything interesting?"

"Ooh, like maybe a bathroom!" Ashley’s eyes lit up excitedly.

"Bathroom?" the taller girl’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Suddenly she understood and her eyes shot open, "Gross, Ash!"

"Whaaaat?" she complained; pouting, she added, "I have needs.”

"Pfft, your needs? How about my need to not do things of that nature in a disgusting public restroom."

"Hey, just an innocent suggestion," Ashley said while clasping her hands together in front of her and shrugging her shoulders. Innocent smile to go alone with the innocent suggestion.

"Yeah, uh huh." Spencer wasn’t convinced. "Let’s go," she stood and grabbed the other girl by the wrist hauling her to her feet. "Hey, Dad," she called. Arthur looked up from his paper and raised his eyebrows in acknowledgment. "We’re gonna go walk around, ‘k?"
