A Red Sunset
The house was actually quite cute. It came with a tan couch and a working light, which I assumed he’d added. I roamed about the place, filled with the thrill of being in an abandoned house at night. I could feel his eyes on me from across the dim lighted room.
“So…what romantic life do you have?” he said
I sighed as his uncanny brown eyes urged me to tell the truth.
“Well honestly, not much good comes out of romance with me. The last guy left unsatisfied, I suppose I wasn’t anyone to hold him….he had blue eyes.” I said, giving him a sad smile. Sadness crept into the blissful mood he’d created in me this evening. I turned away from him. "I'd run and hide if i were you" I added. He muttered something unintelligible to my ears.
“Jane you are beautiful” he said huskily. I turned, eager to make a connection with his eyes. He was closer than I had expected, having crossed the room in an impossible speed again. If I wasn’t so captivated by him, this would have bothered me. And he was so gloriously beautiful. Suddenly his eyes seemed to flash into a pure burgundy red. I leaned in and his lips met mine. Soon his chill lips found their way to my neck. A sudden, unexplained chill took over me. I backed away, suddenly irrationally terrified of his cool touch. His eyes were glowing, and where slowing dying down from a sort of high he seemed to be on. Then he seemed to realize something.
“Oh” he gasped. His hands flew to his face. When he removed them his face was pained, and his eyes filled with ancient grief. I sat down on the couch warring with myself, wanting to be near him, but then terrified of him for some reason.
“I’m sorry” he murmured.
“No…no it’s fine I just….” I didn’t know how to explain why I had stopped him. “Wasn’t ready” I finished. My desire to be near to him won over my strange fear and I got off the couch to stand in front of him. “You could try again” I said, trying to lighten the mood.
“Not tonight” he said, in deep thought. He smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes, which had faded to the brown. We stood there and it felt like we were staring right into each others souls locked in an atmosphere devoid of time. his soul seemed to be a bright array of colors, pixelated with secrets and layers of protection, his eyes swirled in between red and brown and I could imagine his sould swirling in between the light and the dark. I wondered if, and what, he saw in mine. Probably just a dull muddy brown to match my hair.
“I’ll take you home” he said breaking the heaven. I simply nodded.
