    Fall Colors

Tina sat in the lounger that she dragged out to the end of the dock, watching the sun slowly drop behind the crimson and amber hues that painted the trees that surrounded the lake.  Fall was her favorite time of year, as she enjoyed the changing leaves.  As the sun set, a warm golden glow enveloped everything as far as she could see.

She wrapped her arms around herself.  A chill began to set in as the sun melted behind the trees, and the magenta, orange and lavender streaks painting the sky reflected off the lake in front of her as daylight gave way to night.  She couldn’t help but smile, as she remembered the first trip here.  After she and Bette reunited, they decided to take a family vacation that fall.  Angie enjoyed the walks in the woods with her moms with the fallen leaves lining the trails.

Angie especially enjoyed when they made piles of the multi-colored leaves outside their secluded cabin.  She spent the afternoon jumping into the piles and tossing leaves into the air.  It seemed that in the years they returned to the cabin, there were many spectacular sunsets.  Tonight was no exception.

Tina was startled from her thoughts as she heard gentle footsteps walking towards her on the dock.  She turned to look at the familiar sight that she would never tire seeing.  Bette was walking toward her carrying a bottle of wine with glasses and a blanket tucked under her arm.

“Hey.”  Bette leaned down and placed a light kiss on Tina’s lips.

“Hi babe.  I’m glad you made it out here finally.  I thought they would have been asleep as soon as their heads hit their pillows and you would have been out here long before I finished the dishes.  You almost missed it all.  I was getting ready to come check on you.”

“Angie is reading in bed, and she asked if she could read a couple more chapters.  I told her that was okay.  However, Maddy and Jack were way too overtired, and fought going to sleep with the last bit of energy they each had.  I thought it was going to be easy to get them settled, especially since we thought they were going to fall asleep in their dinners, but I was wrong.  Hopefully, they will sleep longer in the morning.  I thought for sure that I would make it out here before you.”
