Coming up for air – part ten
Bette was standing by the window in her office at the CAC. She had just finished a meeting with a new artist whose work she’d wanted to secure for six month. The meeting went well regardless of the fact that Bette’s mind was elsewhere.
On one hand, Bette felt hopeful for the first time in a long time. On the other hand, she was worried – scared almost. Even though she had been without Tina for almost nine months, Tina still held the same power over her. Bette knew that whatever Tina was going through, it would have a great impact on her life too. She wondered what that would entail.
It was Tuesday and Bette hadn’t heard a word from Tina since Sunday night. She didn’t really expect to but still, she was a little disappointed. Tina’s unannounced visit had made Bette allow herself to hope, and this hope was now tearing her apart. One thing she knew was that if Tina disappeared out of her life once again, it would positively kill her. Even though Tina didn’t really belong to Bette, she knew she couldn’t lose her again.
Bette started to pace the floor. She was surprised and relieved that Tina came to her, when she really needed someone. Bette had almost given up on that ever happening. Tina had allowed Bette to hold her, giving her a tiny taste of what being physically close to Tina meant. She had missed that so much, it brought tears to her eyes just thinking about it. But seeing Tina had also made Bette realize the extent of Tina’s pain. Her grief was recognizable but it seemed to add on to the misery that Bette already felt. Bette stopped her pacing and looked out the window again. She reminded herself that she had promised to be patient, but every instinct she had told her to run to Tina and at least try to comfort her in some way. Bette didn’t know what to do.
She smiled at her own image reflected in the window. Tina had said, she missed her best friend and that Bette still held that place in her heart. Their connection at that moment felt as powerful as ever. Bette had been so close to breaking down, when Tina said those words. All the self-loathing, shame and regret pushing to the surface, threatening to spill over. Bette had been just inches from breaking down completely because the nearness of Tina allowed her to feel all those things. Tina had been the only one who had ever seen Bette at her most vulnerable, and having her so close once again had reminded Bette, that there was a time when she didn’t have to carry her burdens alone. Tina would help, she always had. Today Bette was glad, she didn’t let herself break down. Sunday night had been about taking care of Tina and Bette had done that to the best of her abilities. Bette knew she was getting stronger. For almost nine months she had been ranting and raving, screaming and crying, drinking and abusing. She hadn’t had any control over the pain or her reactions to it, but now she had found just this small piece of ground to stand on and it felt good. It felt really good.

I love that Tina is being strong and that Bette is supporting her. Now they can start to move forward. pps
Tina was honest with Henry and he has the rigth to be angry but Tina was in the correct when she told him that he knew the condition and the Tina’s past when they started the relationship. Now Tina will have do deal some hard time but she has Bette that will support her.
well henry knew the deal way up front… tina never lies to him… and i also think its the best idea for her to live some where else for now… they have to learn to trust each other… be best friends dirst… and then hopefully find the love they have for each other again… you are doing a wonderful job with this… i love it… so keep up the good work… later babe…

It would have been so easy for Tina to go to Bette now, but glad to see her realize she needs to rely on herself and not on Bette so much. Great chapter and can’t wait for the next one. They will be able to work it out because the love is still there. Thanks!
not too slow, and i agree with others, tina needs to figure out why she did all those things and what she wants before going back to bette, at least she knows that bette is there for her

For once they seem to be taking their time. Even though they both want to cuddle with the other, they know that in the end they have to be stronger as an individual.

Tina is right she shouldn’t go back to Bette. They need to get to know each other and to trust each other again. Be best friends before thinking of being lovers. Hey,I believe that old Henry wanted a housewife and a bed partner,and someone to take care of Micky. He is as guilty as Tina. thanks

So sweet and so wonderful. Please have Tina go to Bette eventually and let Bette be a friend to her or something! It is time to start communicating and let each other back in one another’s hearts.

Why did the line suddenly go dead…Henry hasn’t gone burko has he??? Don’t let T come to any harm and lead her back to Bette soon…
It’s sad that lil Mikey will be the one to get hurt but it had to be done to move forward. Henry knew what he was up against…he was up against 8 years of love to his what 8 months of cohabitating…get real Henry. She did the right thing in going to a hotel…they need to take it slow and possibly date again.
