    Chapter 31

Ashley stood up and started to walk back to the house leaving her mother and Tina crying in each other’s arms. She couldn’t watch it anymore. She thought she was being intrusive. She was almost there and thoughts started running through her head. Why in the world would Spencer even give her a second chance? They barely knew each other. They known each other for two days, but had been trapped together for hours. She felt like she had this unbelievable bond with her. Tonight seemed like it was never going to end. It just kept going on and on with the emotional roller coaster. She walked into the house and hesitated when she saw Spencer sitting on the couch with Tina’s blanket wrapped around her and her eyes closed. She closed the door carefully, but when the latch clicked Spencer awoke.

    “Where did you go?”

Ashley turned around. The whisper startled her.

“Spencer we need to talk. Okay?”

“Is it good or bad talking?”

Spencer asked innocently. She didn’t want to hear it if it was bad, and to be honest she didn’t want to hear it if it was good either. She didn’t want to talk right now.

    “Good.”

Ashley answered looking at Spencer while smiling. Spencer didn’t smile back. She just patted the seat next to her.

“Ashley just come sit with me. If it wouldn’t be too much can you hold me?”

“I’d love to, but why don’t we just go to my room. Your mom and my mom are probably on their way back and that is where they were sleeping.”

    Spencer smiled.

    “Okay. Where are they anyways?”

    “Memory Lane.”

Ashley smiled. She took Spencer’s hand and led her to her room. Ashley’s room wasn’t the cleanest. She pushed all the clothes on her bed off and had Ashley lay on the side closest to the wall and laid down beside her. She wrapped her arm around Spencer’s abdomen. Spencer put her arm on Ashley’s and interlocked their fingers. She took a deep breath and turned to face Ashley.

“I want to know what love is, I want you to show me; I want to feel what love is, I know you can show me.”

Spencer sang to Ashley. It was the first time she’d ever sang to anyone, but it felt right. Everything felt right. Being in Ashley’s arms. This day. This time. Her softness. The love was everywhere on this day. With their mother’s, and even too soon to say for them, but as well.

    1. this wss a great story CSZimmer, sorry I didn’t comment more and will look forward to the epilogue. I am pretty sure you left a lot of room for a sequal as well, just thought I’d bring that up in case you didn’t do it on purpose. Thank you, Md aka Oma

    2. True love where ever you find it should be grabbed with two hands and embraced. Love should not be taken for granted or played with, nor should anyone run from it. I really admire the planning that went into this story to try to get your point across.
