As Bette calmed down, Tina went to get her some water and a cold rag to wipe her face.  Tina searched Bette’s face to make sure she was ok.  “Bette have you had this nightmare before?”  Bette just nodded.

“Do you want to talk about it?” 

“It is always the same woman.  She seems almost crazy in her actions.  She is forcing me into a jeep and then the jeep rolls down a ravine and that is when I wake up.”

“Bette have you talked to Dr. Roberts about these nightmares?  How long have you had them?  Do you have them often?”  Tina asked with concern.  She was worried.  From what she understood, Bette had been in an accident in the mountains.  What if it hadn’t been an accident?  What if someone had tried to kill Bette?

Bette looked at her hands.  She hadn’t talked to Dr. Roberts and she knew she probably should have.  “No, I was afraid to tell Dr. Roberts.”  Bette almost whispered.

“Why Bette?  Why were you afraid to talk to her about them?”  Tina gently asked.

“I was afraid at first and then I worried that it might be me remembering my former life and it scared me. I thought maybe I couldn’t remember my past because it was really bad.”  Bette began to cry again. 

Tina quickly wrapped her arms around Bette.  “It’s ok baby.  It is going to be ok.”  Then Tina had an idea…”Bette, you say it is always the same women in your nightmares.  Can you remember her face?   Do you think you could sketch that face for me?”

Bette thought for a moment, “yea, I can still see her face.  Hand me a pad and pencil.”  Tina got up and got some paper and pencil for Bette. 

Bette began to sketch and Tina watched as the face came to life.  To Tina’s horror, she recognized the woman in the sketch.  Bette continued to work filling in more details.  As Bette completed the sketch, she looked at Tina and was concerned by the look on her face.  “You know this woman don’t you?”  Tina really didn’t have to answer.  Bette could tell by the look on her face.

Tina swallowed and tried to compose herself.  “Yes,” she whispered.  “I never thought she would go that far.”

“Who is she Tina?  Do I know her?  Do you think she is really responsible for my accident?”  Bette asked with genuine concern.

Tina just slowly nodded.  “Yes, you know her Bette.  She is an artist that you had a relationship with.  When you broke up, she got very angry and embarrassed you in front of many of your friends and colleagues.  Her name is Jodi Lerner and if she is responsible for your accident I am going to kill that fucking bitch!” 

It was Bette’s turn to calm Tina down now.  “Look Tina, we can’t do anything about this tonight.  Do you think you can go back to sleep now?  We will talk with Dr. Roberts and Peggy tomorrow.  They will know what to do.”

“Come on Tina; let’s try to get some rest.  I don’t know if I can sleep but I think I would really like for you to hold me now.”  They lay back in bed.  Tina holds Bette and plays with her hair.  Eventually they both drifted off to sleep.
