    Without Tim – Part 46

    Shane, Carmen, and Mark’s apartment.

Mark looks through his film from Saturday Night.  He sees Dana on the screen.  He sees Alice and Lara.  He sees the expressions.  He hears the door open to his room.

Carmen ”The fuck is so interesting?”

    Mark ”Hey, Carmen.”

Carmen is suspicious of something not being right.  Lara is not returning her messages and no one, not even Shane appears clear on why everything is so mysterious now.

Carmen ”Whenever I’m around you and I hear you say something about seeing something interesting…”

    Mark ”Well…take a look.”

Carmen steps closer to Mark’s monitor where the footage is highlighted.

Carmen ”Okay…what am I looking at?”

Mark rewinds the highlighted portions of what has interested him from that night.  He hits Play for Carmen.

Mark ”I’m no Robin The Boy Wonder, but…Holy Triangle, Batman.”

Mark looks at Carmen whose eyes are focused on the monitor.  She sees the interactions.  Her jaws slowly drops.  She looks at Mark, who is back to looking at the monitor as well.

Mark ”I’ve been watching this trying to figure it out.  I think there’s something go-”

He hears the door shut.  Carmen is no longer in the room.

Mark ”And now I know how Commissioner Gordon feels.”

Sierra Hills Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Shapiro’s office.

The news is sinking in for Dana.  Suddenly, the tennis victory, the relationship with Lara, the relationship with Alice, whatever melodrama that exists in her life all seems to wither away.  All she is thinking about is getting rid of the cancer inside her.  She wants the mastectomy.  She wants it gone.  She wants it all gone.

    Dana’s apartment.

Lara is there waiting, patiently.  Her mind is a swirl of thoughts.  Her emotions are a mix of confusion.  Dana should know something by now.  Lara should be there with her.  Dana has not called her.  Alice has also gone silent.  She has work tonight for Bisexual Speed Dating Night at The Planet.  The doorbell rings.  Lara rushes over to the door.  Maybe Dana’s phone is on the fritz.  She opens the door, not even bothering to check.  She sees Carmen.

    Carmen ”We need to talk.”

Lara’s mind is everywhere.  She is lost.  She does not know.

Lara ”It’s…not really a good time.”
