    Bette and Helena sat facing each other. Bette’s right arm rested along the back of the couch. She sipped from the glass she held in her other hand. Helena sat cross-legged, in a modified yoga pose, while she too continued to enjoy the wine she had selected.

     

    "I don’t know quite what to make of you," Bette said after a few moments of silence had passed. "I can’t help but be a bit skeptical as to what your motives might be with regard to my role in your life."

     

    "You could always enjoy the fact that we’re physically compatible and not worry so much about what else I might be up to," Helena suggested. She knew that to Bette, her motives had always appeared to be entirely malicious and designed solely to undermine anything Bette hoped to accomplish. Only through her actions could she prove her worth to Bette. No amount of convincing would make her believe a personality shift had taken place.

     

    "We do have that working in our favour," Bette smiled and sipped from her glass again. "This is a lovely wine."

     

    "I’m just trying to get you drunk so I can take advantage of you," Helena said with a shrug. "You know me, always trying to manipulate my way around."

     

    "What if I’m only using you to escape feeling lonely?" Bette asked, in all seriousness.

     

    "I can’t think of anyone I’d rather be used by," Helena replied. "I don’t blame you for having your guard up right now. But if you think back over the recent months, you’ll realize that I’ve been trying to make amends for past transgressions, rather than simply bulldozing my way through life with the expectation of getting my way."

     

    Bette had a far off look in her eyes.

     

    "Sorry I was still caught up in the fact you said you were okay with the idea that I might be using you," Bette said. "But I know, especially Alice has been attesting to the fact that you’ve been working at improving yourself."

     

    Helena leaned forward to kiss Bette briefly and then rocked back to resume her previous pose.

     

    "That was seemingly random," Bette said with a grin.

    5. You’re right, this story is most definitely stricking a cord. I am trying to figure out exactly what draws me to this story, other than your expert writing…and I think it is because I truly do want to like Helena and to think that she is a good person who wasn’t really out to destroy Bette…and I also think it is because with Tina seemingly being so unresponsive to Bette this season, it is nice to see that she is loved by someone, especially knowing that Tina is “entertaining” a man in her own home. (That really threw me for a loop, and struggle with how I can be a Tina fan in this story.) So far, I am rooting for Helena and Bette whole heartedly. Thank you for this…this is the story I watch for every time I log on.

    18. Gee, looks like I came late to the ball. Well, like they all said. Glad that A. Peggy barged in and B. Peggy was so cool about it. I get the impression she may not have been the best mother while Helena was growing up, but with her now grown daughter (& company) she was pretty cool.

Well, ok, maybe when Tina finds out except she won’t care so it doesn’t matter, but it would be fun if she did care… anyway, this pairing could prove so awkward if not handled as deftly and intelligently and beautifully as you handle it. Instead, it’s lyrical, almost sweet with a sharpness to it that is seductive, not harsh. Awesome.

    20. Simply brilliant! Peggy walking in, how much fun, at first, I thought it was Winnie and the kids. I like that Peggy is pulling for this pairing. I am also curious what Tina is going to say…who is going to be the first to figure it out…will they be caught in the bathroom at the Planet? Will Bette tell Tina in a fit of rage? Come on Fins, don’t make us wait too long before the next post.

    21. Oh too funny. Peggy has always put Bette ahead of Helena. I have always felt that because of that Helena has gone out of her way to displease both Bette and Peggy. Only on her way to hating Bette did she realize that she was falling in love with Bette. I really like both stories this one just makes me feel like we are getting revenge on IC.

What could be better than to see Bette soften that hard-ass edge of Helena’s and turn her into the likeable character I’d like to see her become. Something that Tina couldn’t pull off last season. And don’t get me started with this S3 Tina! There isn’t enough space on the entire site.

As Peggy pointed out they’re intelligent and unique in their own way. I truly think they could bring a lot to a relationship, should that be where they want to go.     48. Pegy has the best timing ever. I love the way she enters a room and just says I’ll give you ladies a minute. This pairing of Bette and Helena is quite enjoyable and i can’t wait to see where the relationship goes from here. And the more Peggy Peaboy the better–she’s so funny (and hot for an older lady….lol).
