Trouble in Designer Suits Ch.34
I watched the realisation dawn on Peggy’s face as she held Andy once again and as was so often the way said all she needed in that moment through actions rather than words before returning to
her seat. And so onto the last gift to be done thank god I think people could
not take much more.
"So my last gift it to you Bette, my friend, my sister, a person with whom I think I will never fully understand the bond we have but will cherish it forever. Also Rachel and I are pretty sure that
despite the pleas of the others to not leave you in charge that you are the reason that today has gone as well as it has. Again you are damn hard to get a gift for I mean easier than Peggy but really guys you need to like stop with the having everything you could ever want set up.
"Seriously though, from the bottom of my heart I thank you and so I do this not lightly but knowing that I will get as much from this as you and also I can give you the only thing you have ever asked me for. So you get two gifts really one that I give to you today as a token and one that we will get to together in the coming months.”
In the last of my duties I passed Andy the present and a thick cream envelope. Knowing the effect of both would be huge on Bette. In the package was another painting this one of the Porter-Kennard’s all sat at the kitchen table playing cards and laughing, one of Andy’s favourite memories of them all and I could see was in and of itself a great gift. Then with a little prompting from Andy Bette opened the envelope,
this was the biggy, for Andy this was massive and I knew that Bette would know
that and do justice to what Andy had laid in her hands. Bette’s eyes glazed
over as she looked at the photos before reading the letter that accompanied
them. I had read it last night and knew why Bette’s was crying as she read.
Dear Bette,
What to say? How to show you? What you
have come to mean to me is sometimes beyond and to me always shocking, I mean
you may have noticed that I do not let people in that easily. But even if you
did notice you ignored me and my hang ups and for that I cannot say enough how
grateful I am. So that brings me to the photos. What you hold in your hand are
all the paintings I have in storage, the one you saw accidentally the other
week is in fact one of many as I think you knew. You kinda snuck up on me that
day at the warehouse it was not my intent for you to come in but damn you if
you weren’t early for the first time since I have known you. So you saw, and
you seemed to like and then demanded that I should be showing people what I
could do.
