#3 TOUCH TONE: The Ringer – Tina Kennard L Word

I feel a sting at the edges of my eyes as I remember back to being so young, and the feeling of her leaving me, and never coming home again.

    Bette Grief Stricken CU

”Take a minute, Bette.” Joyce looks away from me as the door to her office opens and Caitlin, her secretary, brings in a tray with a bowl of fruit, an urn of coffee and several bottles of chilled mineral water.

”I’m not the most maternal person, but let me veer off character here and put some strawberries and blueberries in a bowl for you. Just take your time.” Joyce and Caitlin exchange what appears to be a, ”Hold my calls, please,” look.

”And then there’s this business of the press conference today – the first day of shooting for Tina’s movie, ”Les Girls”. That’s upon us like a petulance.” I hear the emotion still in my voice.

”Bette, don’t aggravate yourself with that right now. Movie nonsense goes on in this town 24/7.”

”Do you know a PR handler and fixer named, Claire Reilly? Tina hired her to handle our engagement announcement amidst the brouhaha over the movie.”

”I think she’s that rascal, Buck Reilly’s kid.” Joyce gestures to a photograph of her and The Clinton’s hanging on her wall. ”I wonder if Phyllis’ daughter knows her? But Molly’s a few years younger.”

”She is.” I dry my eyes with my handkerchief. ”You know, Joyce, I was thinking about it on the way over here, and while my timing was urgently my own, and in light of the movie’s attention if I’d been reasonable I guess I should have waited. But I felt a door open between me and Tina last week, and I was going to be damned to the hell of eternity if I let it close on me again.”

”I understand the feeling. Women get under our skin.” She hands me a tray with coffee, Pellegrino and fruit. ”Surgical removal is painful and almost impossible. Many have tried.”

”But you’re right though. I haven’t stopped long enough to think about it.” I balance several blueberries in a silver spoon. ”She was always on my mind. For years and years in my dreams I searched for my mother – frantically so when I was young girl.” I drop the spoon back into the bowl and look over at Joyce. ”Then there was this threshold with Tina at the SheBar – of all the unlikely places.” I laugh to myself. ”It opened, she came home with me and we’ve been together ever since.”

    1. Brilliant ! I loved We-Ho but this Season 7 promises to be Fantastic! This chapter is so great – I hear Bette as I read of so clearly and Joyce what a hoot!

My favourite couple plus a great version of Joyce plus a nod to Hitchcock and Brandy – what more could I want – Answer – another Chapter please soon!

    2. Gosh, loved that chapter. Too bad IC couldn’t come up with something similar to give us, it would have been awesome. Of course, she couldn’t really do that because Jenny was patterned after her own life, so she siad in interviews. Blackbird, you’re awesome. Thanks for posting.

    3. Blackbird,

Just finally caught up with your latest installment. And as promised I would leave a comment. You have always amazed me with your writing and i also like the pics.

How I wish that there was really a season 7 where Jenny didn’t die bcoz when she died in S6, the show also ended with a lot of questions most esp. if someone killed her or she must have just fall by her own doing.

Anyway, thanks for exploring this for us. I am excited for their announcement and of course I’m also looking forward for Bette’s reunion with her mom.

      XOXO

    5. Thoroughly enjoying this chapter. Trying to sort out where stories begin and end. When I look up your name on “Search Fanfic” the story titles are not listed which makes for confusion. There must be an easier, more logical way. Other authors have each chapter listed so one can select the story or chapter that one wishes.

    6. ** Until this site’s cataloging and display gets fixed here is the order of the stories in this book.

First, to refresh from the end of WeHo where this book, Touch Tones, begins I suggest you read the chapter titled, The Lucky Ones found here: https://mail.assertive-maroon-jellyfish.104-250-143-187.cpanel.site/?p=85893.

Then read, Coming Home here: https://mail.assertive-maroon-jellyfish.104-250-143-187.cpanel.site/?p=86129,

then Malibu which is here: https://mail.assertive-maroon-jellyfish.104-250-143-187.cpanel.site/?p=86144.

That is my recommendation. Now, Season 7’s inspired NEW book, Touch Tone’s Chapter One is titled, #1. After Midnight, and begins an hour after Malibu ends. The first chapter in Touch Tones: After Midnight is here: https://mail.assertive-maroon-jellyfish.104-250-143-187.cpanel.site/?p=86526.

Chapter Two is called, #2. Touch Tones: The Handler and is here: https://mail.assertive-maroon-jellyfish.104-250-143-187.cpanel.site/?p=86539.

The next story (#3) is Touch Tones: The Ringer L Word is here: https://mail.assertive-maroon-jellyfish.104-250-143-187.cpanel.site/?p=86574.

Then following that story you read Chapter 4, a story I had great fun in writing, too, and its titled: #4 Touch Tone: Kryptonite and is here: https://mail.assertive-maroon-jellyfish.104-250-143-187.cpanel.site/?p=86655.

Now! Welcome to The L Word inspired Season 7.
