The Trouble With Love Chapter Twenty

“OK, here’s what I suggest. It’s a little after three now so no-one is going to miss you for the rest of the afternoon, especially if I cover for you. Call her and get her to meet you, in a park, someplace where there’s wide open spaces so you can really look at her. I think if you really see her and everything she’s trying to tell you without saying a word, you’ll get your answer as to whether you want her back and Tina, try not to fight it, no matter what happens.”

“I don’t know if I can do that.” replied Tina, quietly.

“The leaving work early bit or the not putting up a fight bit?” smirked Kate.

    “Both.”

“Tina, I going to steal your phone and make the call myself, in a minute, if you don’t.”

“OK, you win. Why do I let you talk me into these things?”

    “Because you know I’m right.”

Shortly after Tina left the set and called Bette. They agreed to meet at Regent’s Park underground station where they could make the short walk to the park together. Once they were in the park Bette couldn’t resist some gentle teasing.

“I didn’t think you were the type Tina.”

    “What type?”

“The type of person who skives off work early to spend time with their errant” Bette trailed off, not knowing how to categorise what she was to Tina anymore.

“Things change, people change, but I think we both know that.”

    “But not everything changes.”

“Name me one thing that hasn’t changed in the last few months.” challenged Tina.

“Would it be too easy to say that I still love you and that nothing’s ever going to change that, and that I still want you and think about you every minute of the day and I’m going to keep telling you all of those things until youI was going to say until you believe me, but I think what I really mean is until I prove to you that I’m sincere in everything that I say and do.”

“It’s strange how I’ve thought about you more in the time that we’ve been apart than I did in the last six months that we were together. I guess the baby, and working at the centre, and life in general got in the way. I think what I’m trying to tell you Bette is that I took you for granted, I thought that you would always be there and then to find out that wasn’t the case, that was beyond my comprehension. I’m sorry.”

    1. Oh boy, can hardly believe I’m first. Tina finally let her guard down and just at the right time, when she could feel Bette’s love and see it in her eyes. She finally had to let go of everything and see that she loved Bette as well. That was great. Now maybe they can work on being together without animosity, guilt and all that other stuff that was stopping Tina from being with Bette. She must let it go. Thank you for this post.

    2. You know, if S2 Tina and Bette communicated as well as they do in your story, we could have avoided the abyss that is their relationship in S3. As always, excellent chapter.

    3. Tina is getting very good advice from Kate. Tina has got to relinquish that fear she’s holding on to and allow herself to “feel” again. Feel everything as anew…like Bette is doing.
