The Story of Shane: In Transition 1
Shane sat down gladly and couldnt help but sigh in relief. Her feet were killing her.
So Shane, what are you doing here?
Uh thats a good question and I dont have a good answer to follow it up, Shane just shrugged.
Where are you staying?
Im crashing at Jays for the night. After that, well I guess Im looking for a place but I think I need to find a job first.
Meg nodded. She didnt want to pry as to why Shane was not at home, but she has a suspicion that Shane had never have a home. That was how she found Jay too. You see how busy I am tonight? A girl just up and quit. So how about it Shane? The pay is not much but I can promise you free food for at least one meal a day. The kitchen opens at 3 but I do not need someone until 8 to help with the bar crowd. That goes on till midnight.
Meg glanced up at Shane and saw her shock expression. Knowing that Shane was not going to say anything soon, she continued on. If you need more money and Im sure you do, my husband owns a hair salon and he needs a new shampoo girl. My daughter also works there in her spare time and more so in the summer. So what do you say?
To what? Shane was still in shock.
To working for me and my husband, Meg chuckled.
Oh right. Yeah definitely. This is great of you.
Now as for a place to live. My sister owns an apartment in the building not so far from here. She is taking a trip around the world for a yearrich dead husband. She just needs someone to take care of her place in the mean time. I was going to do it but this will make it easier for me.
Whywhy are you being so nice to me? Shane couldnt help but asked. No one could be this nice for no reason. Not in her world or in any world that she knew of.
Lets just say that my sister and I had to go through a lot when we first came here. The streets could be a very mean place for anybody especially two lost girls. We couldnt make it without each other. Either way, I could never allow anyone to go through that if I can prevent it somehow. Thats all you need to know for now. We will talk more some other time.
Shane has never been on the receiving ends of such good fortune but she was not stupid either. Im at a lost as to how to thank you for this. Im will try not to disappoint you, and I will pay rent to your sister.
Meg could see that Shane has some pride in her so she did not refute that point. All right, thats done. I will talk to my sister, Mandy, so why dont you make Jay take you over to my place. You can meet my family then.
She handed Shane a few more plates. Here, back to work you.
Shane smiled and gladly complied. She did not want to show it but Shane has been pretty comprehensive as to what to do once tomorrow comes. Maybe my luck is about to change, Shane thought.
