    THE L WING
    CHAPTER 271
    Narration of President Bette Kennard-Porter

    Being the President you get used to being written about – you get used to all sorts of lies and nonsense written about you. I can deal with most things. I am less tolerant of anything about Tina or my family so its surreal to read Tina’s book about my father. I stayed up until 2am this morning reading it and I have to say that it’s a marvellous account of his life. I have read sections of it but I didn’t read any of the drafts of it – I wanted to be able to read the majority of it “ fresh “ Tina has a great writing style and she portrays my father in terms that do honour his life and the extraordinary place in history that he holds. Of course there are the controversial areas – the sections about my mother I watched as Tina wrote and they weren’t easy reading at the time and they still are not. That said I totally support what Tina has written – she has managed the incredibly difficult balancing act between telling it how it is and being aware of the sensitivities of Kit, dad and me about everything that happened that lead up to and followed my mother walking out on my father.

     

    All of this is going through my head while I am drinking coffee and eating toast and supervising Ella. This morning is the book launch which is why I am doing the child care role while Tina gets ready – the last thing she needs when standing having her picture taken with my father is bits of jam on her new dress. Tomorrow is Ella’s birthday – that’s another thing that just blows me away – how did either of us exist before this little girl came into our lives ?
    She has taken over our lives and both of us are very happy about that.

    “Are you enjoying that Ella ?”

    12 months ago she was still snug inside Tina and today she is still up in her high chair looking scarily like me, eating toast and calling me momma – just how utterly mind blowing is that ?
    The door swings open and Tina walks in – we both look at her for different reasons. For me she is just the best thing that has ever happened to me – even after the length of time we have been a couple she can

    2. ouch for Alice, maybe Lucy really was too young for her. When my sister was little and i enjoyed taking care of her, she used to watch Bob the builder and I’m proud to say I still remember the ‘sticky’ song the show had lol. Thanks for posting this *hugs*

    4. Oh wow, been waiting for that shoe to drop. What did Alice think when they first got together? She should have known this would happen eventually, she is so much older than Lucy. For Lucy’s sake I hope the other woman is worth the trouble. Oh, God, I just had a horrible thought, it isn’t Holly goddamn Lancaster is it? Heaven forbid.
