    the L Series: Night Cap

Helena sat at a bar with her glass in one hand and a cigarette in another. She never smoked a day in her life until the dreadful day in Whistler when her mother told her that she was cutting her off financially. She took another swig from her glass and took a drag from her cigarette. She rested her head on her hand as she looked down at the counter.  She sighed heavily as she flicked her ashes in the tray next to her.

“Why the long face?” She looked up and saw Bette standing next to her.

    “What are you doing here?”

“The same as you,” she took a seat next to her and smiled softly. “Going to drink myself into a stupor.” Helena grinned as she took another drag of her cigarette. “I didn’t know that you smoked.”

“Actually I don’t, I just started.” She looked at Bette and held up her pack. “You want one.”

Bette shook her head. “I’m fine,” the bartender came over to Bette, and Bette order herself a drink. Helena finished her glass of alcohol and yelled for another one. “So how’s life?”

“Hell—I lost my job, I can’t support myself because my mother cut me off. I don’t know what to do. I’m like a little kid lost in the world right now.” She sighed and looked at Bette. “What about you?”

“My life—what can I say? I’m almost lost my daughter because Tina wanted full custody, and she’s still with the fuckin’ male Henry.”

“Actually—she’s not with him,” Bette looked at Helena. “She’s dating some woman right now. I think her name is Kate.”

“When did she decide that she wanted to be a carpet muncher again?”

“Harsh words,” Helena grabbed her second glass and took a drink. She swallowed and licked her lips. Bette grabbed her bottle and took a drink of her beer.

“Tina brought the bitch out of me.”

“Well weren’t you the one who stole your daughter during the middle of the night?” Bette eyed Helena and bit her tongue. “I’m sorry—I didn’t mean to say that.” Helena looked at Bette. “Let’s talk about something else.”

“What is there to talk about?” Bette smiled and rested her hand on her chin.

    1. Hey ACB, Thank you for this interesting take on Bette and Helena’s realtionship. Given the scope and your talent and imagination this will be a must read story. Gal, my screen sizzled as the words ump off the screen. They were just so heated in their desire to quench their own needs. More please. Thank you again, Your Loyal Fan.

    2. Well, I liked that one, and I also like the idea of a series of shorts : it’s sometimes so difficult to keep up with more than 20 different stories at a time LOL (and some of them are SOOOO long that you have to catch up from more than 100 posts… ;-) – keep going, and you can have a different couple in every post, I don’t mind at all… on the contrary, I think it would be very nice and could bring on some new ideas ;-)
