The Greatest Love Story Ever Told

The entrance of a nurse woke Bette from her light sleep.

“Well it’s about time young lady”

“What…Have I really been asleep that long” Bette said while lifting her head from Tina’s tummy.

“Not you….look” the nurse nodded her head.

If Bette had spun her head round any quicker it would have surely flown of her shoulders.

The immense relief rendered her speechless at the sight of Tina with her eyes open.

“I’ll be right back with Doctor Phillips, he will be pleased to see you have decided to join us”  the nurse left the room.

Tina’s earlier confusion had grown exponentially at the arrival of the nurse not to mention the realisation that she seemed to have lost the ability too form coherent words.

“It’s ok….T….everything’s going to be ok….I’m here….ok”  Bette couldn’t stop the flow of her tears when a single tear escaped from the corner of Tina’s hazel eye.

The arrival of Dr Phillips and his entourage halted any further attempt at communication.

Bette hung back and allowed the medical staff to see to Tina.  That was the point when Bette became painfully aware that everything wasn’t ok, everything wouldn’t be ok for some time.

Now should have been a time for her to be overwhelmed with happiness at Tina’s awakening and the words that she could hear coming from Dr Phillips that there is absolutely no reason why Tina would not make a full recovery.

Bette was beginning to regret her insistence that she should be the one to tell Tina that she was the sole survivor of the crash that her entire immediate family where involved in.  Surely Tina was already wondering why her parents and brother where not at her bedside.

Happiness would not be an emotion that would be making an appearance any time soon, the only thing that Bette was feeling right now was doubt,  she gazed over to Tina’s busy bedside, Tina looked completely bewildered and was seeking reassurance as she returned Bette’s look.

Somehow Bette found the strength to temporarily soothe Tina’s confusion through a smile and hoped that her eyes did not reveal the devastating truth.

All too soon the room was cleared of all personnel and as Bette took Tina’s hand she accepted that she couldn’t prevent the barrage of pain that her answer to the inevitable question would divulge, she made a silent promise to herself that no matter what she would never leave Tina again.

    1. tina will do the right thing for bette, even if bette dsnt like it she will go. poor tina losing her family and bette now wow skimm drama drama. any way skimm love reading and talking see ya

    2. Wow can you say Peggy leaving the crow speechless… even though we all know they end up together in the end…still hard knowing that they go through this temporary seperation.

    3. Skimmy you do spin an excellent yarn sooooooo perfectly. Why couldn’t Bette finish her degree in California…Tina had just been through a tremendous trauma and I think that Bette was doing the right and unselfish thing staying with her. Why do other people always think they know best. Bette was smart and taking a year off to help Tina recover wouldn’t have been a huge hardship for her. Well there endeth my sermon…stand up Bette and just say NO! Ohhhh….really well written by the way!

    4. wow…nice twist in the story. didnt expect that one. great writing! looking forward what happens next…and yah, what are bette’s suitcases doing on the bed???

    5. ROFLMAOOOOOO HEY!!!! I resemble part of that author note! LMAO! You are too funny. The chat was hysterical the other night, and girl you are VERY sharp. I hardly got through my popcorn before you “guessed” that other person’s alter ego. I’m going to send you an honorary police badge! Okay…once again you have me hanging on your every word. Because it’s you, the unpredictable author who will write from her creative side and not what may or may not be expected by the readers, I’m VERY worried about the suitcases……….MORE!!!!!! ABBA ABBA ABBA! Hee Hee

    6. Skimmer. Wow. You’ve left me totally speechless and absolutely and totally thankful that you stuck to your guns on this writing thing. I didn’t know we had a chat thing here. You know you’ve just contributed to my not getting any work done ever. Especially if you’re going to be around. Ok, back to commenting on the story. Wow (I know, I know, how illiterate of me to have to repeat that). Fat legs, how could you do that? You’re killing me here. No, but seriously, I was on page 4 or 5 when I realized that even though the obvious person to feel bad for is Tina, Bette has also lost a big part of her life. The Kennards were basically her adoptive family when she was younger. This is a great twist. Though I would have liked to have seen more conversation between Peggy and Tina. They seem like great matches for one another. Love this. So MUCH. PPVVVVVVVVVVVVS (and that isn’t enough V’s but I figured my comment would get cut off eventually)

    7. Awww Tina, her love for Bette is stronger than her fear of losing a loved one again. Is there a possibility that Tina leaves with Bette and stays the entire time that Bette is in England?

    8. Thank you Skimmer for updating this story. Excellent twist. Love it and can’t wait to see what happens! I hope Tina goes with Bette! Thank you again for this and I’m sorry I can’t answer your question – I don’t know who I’ll save and probably drown being so fickle :-)
