The Greatest Love Story Ever Told

They sat there for a minute, both enjoying the closeness and the quiet, Shane was nodding off when Bette came into the bedroom, noticing his drooping eyes she mouthed “Is he ok”

Tina smiled “Yeah, I’ll tell you later” she whispered.

Shane raised his head “I’m sorry Nana B” he apologized for his earlier behaviour.

Bette joined them on the bed “That’s ok, are you a little sleepy” she asked as he scooted over to her.

“A little” Shane admitted “Can you tell me a story, please” he asked.

Bette considered for a second, going to his room and grabbing one of his books, then she had an idea, “See that painting over there”

Shane looked where his Nana was pointing “There’s a photograph in the album that looks just like that” he replied.

Tina smiled, and nodded, Bette winked, then placed a kiss on the top of Shane’s head “This is a special story just for extra special little boys”

    LA December 1998

“Hows the headache” Tina asked, she had been sitting quietly reading, while Bette had her head tucked under the blankets for the last hour.

“A little better” Bette replied, peeking her head out from her haven.

“You know maybe you need glasses, you have been having a lot of headaches lately especially after reading” Tina said hesitantly, not only was she concerned about the headaches, if it was indeed her eyes that were the cause, the surprise she had for Bette’s birthday tomorrow was going to fall flat.

That statement caught Bette’s full attention and she sat up “Tina I do not need glasses, my eyes are perfectly fine”

“If you say so, but maybe it’s worth a trip to the opticians just to be sure” Tina dropped her book onto the bed and looked at Bette. “I think you’d look quite sexy with glasses”.

Bette shook her head, even though she silently agreed with Tina, she had been getting a few headaches lately but she did not have trouble reading. “I do not need glasses” she stated once again.

Tina chuckled and waved two fingers in front of Bette’s face “How many fingers have I got up”
