    Chapter 17

    Tina felt beyond exhausted when she arrived back at Melvin’s just after lunchtime , she had been running on fumes since she left Bette sleeping this morning. Despite the middle of the night phone call she had placed to Al, Shane & Helena, the latter had thankfully insisted that her car and driver where at her disposal, she may be a royal pain in the rear end however when the chips were down she without question came up trumps.

    She traipsed through downstairs and finding no trace of life made her way upstairs where she caught the tail end of Bette’s phone call.

    “Yeah, thanks Aunt Patty, I’ll call you with the details as soon as I have them, bye” Bette placed the receiver back in it’s cradle, ending the call with another member of her conspiratorial family, she wondered for a second how she stopped herself from calling her a lying old cow when she offered her sincere condolences on the death of her father before smiling wearily at Tina who had just flopped down on the bed next to her sighing heavily.

    Tina turned to lay on her side so she wouldn’t fall of the single bed.

    “I missed you this morning” Bette said assuming the same position.

    The blonde raised her eyebrows questioning the validity of that statement, she would show her bare ass in a store window if Bette had been awake longer than the duration of that phone call she just had. “Oh really”

    Bette smiled, she had been rumbled “Ok, I should have said I missed you the second the phone rang and woke me up” She replied looking down the length of Tina, curiosity prompted her next question as she noticed Tina was fully clothed and had laid on the bed still with her boots on “Where have you been” she asked moving down the bed so she could remove Tina’s footwear.

    “Thanks babe, I didn’t have enough energy to climb the stairs and take my boots off” Tina acknowledge Bette’s actions “I have been to the funeral directors, Friday 1.30, if that’s ok with you” Bette silently nodded her agreement “Then I went to the newspaper office to put in an announcement, then I went across town and ordered a headstone, who you have to call to confirm the exact wording….”

    7. My dear Skimmy, I loved the chapter. It’s nice to know that Kit and Maxine didn’t completely give up on Bette, and that Kit’s thinking of Bette’s well-being when she refuses to contact her. After all, if Bette hadn’t checked Melvin’s study, she would have never known and it would have been hard to hear the whole thing from Kit. I hope aunt Patty lets Kit know that Bette knows. I’m sure Kit will step up to the plate then. Also, I know I owe you a reply and some thanks, but I’ve been swamped. Thanks, buddy!
