“How can he bring us to court?” Sam asked Rosita Navarro and Rosita leaned back in her chair and worried a nail. She blew her hair from her face; the stray stands of raven black locks always fell down to tickle her nose. She gave up, as she often did to try and look like a professional lawyer, instead she just did what came naturally. She looked like a Barrio girl in a very expensive suit.

“Because he’s a biological relative chica, you know that. He knows that, he’s just pulling his strings. The judge is a puppet, and I’ve already set a motion for the case to be thrown out. Then another to have it to change into family court. You adopted the kid, Si?” Rosita asked pulling out the paper work for the case, not really remembering if she’d seen the adoption papers there or not.  Sam had opted to not use all the corporate sharks that she had at her disposal, instead she sought out a lawyer that Oscar had recommended to Tina. Rosita Navarro, a hard nosed lawyer that had a reputation for seeing things in a different light, and that as just what Sam wanted right now. Something all together different.

“His name is Jesse.” Shane said in a soft voice, turning to look out the glass door at Jesse sitting on one of the chair, his feet swinging as he read a book. He looked innocent, even though they’d told him what was going on, because he deserved that much, the truth.

“I know Shane, I’m sorry. I’m not very good with kids. Here is the things you might lose.” Rosita admitted, and Shane felt the heat rising to her cheeks, the tears that threatened, her family was going to be torn apart, she wouldn’t have it. Never again, not now and not ever.

“No.” Sam said, steadfast in the thought that she was not going to lose him, she’d lost C.J. and she wasn’t going to lose her child. Sam’s child, and Shane’s family, he and

Shane had a bond that was mesmerizing.
