The Fast and Fevered Fall- Chapter Three

Tina sat outside, in the backyard, looking out onto the pool. It was early, not even 7am but she wanted to make the most of her last day in this house. She picked up yesterday’s copy of the LA Times. She looked at the headline and then up towards the date. The 3rd of August 2006, almost nine years to the day that she had first met Bette at the gallery. How those years had flown by and now here she was saying goodbye to the place where she thought was home. Saying goodbye to the woman that she thought would be her home forever.

She silently wondered whether her daughter would hate her in years to come for taking her away from her other mother. Tina had promised herself that no matter what happened between her and Bette they would always put Angelica’s best interests first. The fallout from the incident at Shane and Carmen’s wedding had been nuclear, but somehow they had gotten past that. Funny how there should be so much clarity over their joint relationship with their daughter and yet the relationship between them was still so mired in confusion. Tina sighed deeply at the fact that still couldn’t work things out between them, and now she was leaving, giving up that hope.

A noise shattered her peace. She looked at the baby monitor silently pleading with Angelica to let her have a few more minutes to herself. No one was more surprised than Tina when the noise subsided and she was left to her own tranquillity again. Soon Bette would be up and maybe the recriminations would start all over again. Tina hoped that Bette would stay with Kit for the last few days but Bette was having none of it. She said that it was her house and she wasn’t leaving it for anyone, least of all Tina. The thing that Bette didn’t count on though was that, no matter how estranged they had become, Tina still knew her best and if there was one thing that Tina was sure of, it was that it was killing Bette to watch the process of her leaving. Just as it was killing Tina to do so.

There was movement from within the house. This could only mean one thing, Bette was up and ready to start the day. The day that neither of them thought would ever come. It was almost too difficult to bear. Tina got up from her chair and went inside. She found Bette in the kitchen pouring a cup of coffee from the pot that Tina had brewed earlier. Tina looked at Bette and could see that she had already been crying this morning. Tina would have joined her only she thought that she had no tears left to cry. She was physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted from everything that they had gone through in the last few months, maybe even longer than that. Maybe from the day that she had moved back in with Bette. A move that she now considered to be a mistake, they should have taken their time. Talked to each other about the hurt that they had caused, not just assumed that it would all go away.

    1. Geezus wept, Tina leaves Bette for Henry??? that Henry who was in L Word…wtf??? is up with Tina’s brain, her heart is breaking as is Bette’s and Tina’s gonna go thru much more heartache just for a penis??!!! I don’t get it, I never got it and you make it so damned poignant that I AM FURIOUS RIGHT NOW THAT IT EVER CAME TO THIS!!!! I wish I understood the Henry-Tina thing but I just can’t get there…this is so sad…does Tina end up losing Angelica as well??? I think she does…to end up in a bar, a slush, going home with the bartender…hey if I was Angel and had a choice I know which mama I would go to…and I suspect that Angel might be a teenager by now???? oh hell…you bring up such anger and frustration over s3 again!!!

    2. Tina reminds me of a woman I once knew (interesting I used ‘knew’/should be was in-love with so that just shows you do move on after a great love and Bette will/or that’s my experience and opinion)…no matter how much love you give ’em they are just kinda self-destructive, they throw it back in your face, move from partner to partner, breaking everyone’s heart along the way…and eventually do end up alone with nothing and no-one…maybe it’s karmic, I dunno…but it’s terribly painful to love such a person…

    3. my my my…you’ve really got me going…final comment I swear…Just a thought…the whole Tina-Eric scenario with Tina falling for Bette in 5 minutes was an indicator of the character of the woman…we never got to see on the show the ‘7 years’…maybe it was a struggle all the way for Bette to hold onto Tina?…maybe the baby was the last ditch effort to keep them together? Maybe Bette was always more ready for the commited relationship than Tina? after all didn’t Bette propose marriage and Tina turn her down? Maybe Tina’s character was underlying all their ups and downs? and Bette’s infidelity was simply her break-out from always trying to keep things/them glued together and a part of Bette, her subconscious, really knew that it wasn’t a happening thing so she gave Tina justification to actually depart??? and only looking back as in your story does Tina see her own character and therefore own part in the demise of their relationship…oh shit…shut me up!!!!!!anywayz that sort always wakes up far too late….

    4. CG I don’t know how you manage to make me so incredibly happy in one fic, and then extremely sad in the next. Your writing is amazing, and my heart is breaking for the both of them.I think they both tried to work things out, and just couldn’t. They failed eachother, and both are to blame. I can’t even beg you for a happy ending..I don’t really know what to think at this point. PLease post soon.

    5. This was really sad…If it is killing them this much why are they parting ways? The love is there…the attraction is there…the kid is there…what gives? Rau was right in her last comment…we don’t know much about Tina’s past…she did leave Eric in a heartbeat…was this her M.O. in other relationships? Yes Bette cheated but was this the excuse Tina needed to assist in her cut and run? Keep posting.

    6. Citygirl there you go again, breaking my Tibette heart. Does it have to be this way? Is there away that they can work it out, and does Henry have to be apart of their lives?

    7. OMG! Heart breaking! I am so in pain right now. CMAO! Is there any hope for Tibettes fans? I love the way you right, I always did, but you have a gift to make a lot of readers cry!Very good story!!! Post soon! Please, can you give me a clue about a happy ending?

    8. Bloody hell, that was a stinger, this chapter hurt, full of emotions, liking the flashbacks, really wanting to know what your time jump is, but this will be revealed in time I’m sure. Thank you.

    9. You have reached in thru my monitor and torn out my heart, I am a true romantic at heart. True love can last and be all that they need, someone pls stop this train wreck. My day is hooped now!!! But tks for posting, no really thanks

    10. this is soooooooo sad, so emotional…i agree with seahurst, sounds like tina is leaving not because she loves henry more…i want to believe that they will work it out one day and be together

    11. You wrote Bette and Tina with such love for the other in this chapter that it seemed out of place that Tina would be leaving to live with Henry. I mean, the emotions that Tina was feeling, as well as Bette, it just felt that if Tina believed the relationship was truly over, it was over because they couldn’t make it work, not because she loved someone else enough to leave Bette to be with them. Does that make sense? It was a powerful chapter…thank you.

    12. Excellent chapter. So well written. You fully captured their range of emotions. I actually felt everything through your words. I agree with Seahurst. Tina is leaving b/c she doesn’t think they can work things out not b/c she loves Henry more than Bette. She needs to be on her own and not be consumed by another person. I would hope that she would develop some true autonomy and hopefully reunite w/Bette. Even on TLW , Tina can’t be by herself.

    13. When I see one of these chapters, I am like a moth to a flame. I know it os going to heart. In fact, as I read, it does hurt. Yet I cannot resist!!! When I finished the first chapter, I thought that Angelica would not exist in your tale. Knowing now that she does, your first chapter is even sadder that I had thought. If Tina can be at a bar, drinking too much into the wee hours, has been doing so for along period of time, and can bring a woman home, then Angelica no longer lives with her, This means that your story likely set 16 years or so after the (second) break-up. So sad to think that Tina has been so unhappy for so long, and I am not a Tina fan. Thanks for this and for your other stories. (And, uh, inserting a little prayer here (sorry TiBetters) that Bette has not been unhappy all of that time.)
