The Dying of the Light Part 12

“You’re bleeding.”  Tina murmured, reaching out to stop Bette’s hand.  “Stop.”  She ordered quietly, “you’re hurting yourself.”  She intertwined her hands with Bette’s, effectively stopping her and offering some supporting.

Bette couldn’t draw her attention from her arm, she watched the blood bubble to the surface.  Red; passionate and danger both combined and she felt nothing.  “It doesn’t hurt.”  She mumbled; she wanted it to hurt.  Wanted to feel something, anything.

Tina’s brow creased.  She was growing more and more concerned about Bette.  The phone call in the early hours of the morning was worrisome, the panic attack yesterday and now this – something was very wrong but she was unsure what she could do about it.

“Bette honey, let’s sit down.”  Tina tugged on Bette’s hand, guiding her to the lounge.  “We’ll just sit for a minute, okay?”  The talk was superfluous, Bette wasn’t really listening, but it was making Tina feel better.  Making her feel useful.

After 10 minutes of silence, Tina decided it was time to take action.  “Let’s get that arm taken care of, we don’t want to you getting an infection do we?”  She smiled at Bette before heading down the hall to get the first aid kit.

Bette watched Tina leave; it was a common occurrence people leaving her.  Watching their back as they slowly – it always happened in slow motion; a second is as long as an hour, a minute is a day – walked out of her life.  She knew that Tina was coming back, but she felt that moment was fitting, that it meant something even if she couldn’t grasp what right now.

Lost in thought she didn’t hear Tina come back until she felt someone taking her arm, jumping back Bette folded herself into the corner of the lounge, her hair falling over her face.

Tina pulled her hand away as if burned.  Her intention was not to frighten, but to rouse her gently.  The way that she used to when they were together.  She shakes her head dislodging the thought, they aren’t together anymore, she isn’t even sure they are the same people.

“Bette honey,”  Tina said, trying to calm the situation.  “I need to look at where you hurt your arm.”

Bette looks up at her from under her mussed hair, perplexed.  Adverting her gaze to her arm her attention is drawn to the stain of blood.  “It doesn’t hurt.”  She explained once again looking at Tina, “why doesn’t it hurt?”

    1. WOW!!! I hope Kit will show up soon and talk to Bette. Tina really does need to see that some of Bette’s trouble is do to her and back off for a while. Thanks PPS

    2. Tina can’t help her, she is the one that did this to her. I don’t care what rationalization Tina thinks she has, or how right she thinks she was, just cos she was angry at Bette. She took Bette’s child away from her. There is no rationalization or forgiving that, no matter what mistakes are made in the relationship. It boggles my mind how clueless Tina is, it’s like she is standing there after cutting Bette up into pieces, and then saying, “what’s wrong Bette? Why are you so upset? I can’t imagine why you are bothered by the fact that I have cut you into little pieces.” This is exactly the Tina I see on the show too, one who is unable to see how her actions impact others or what they feel. I agree that I think Bette does need good, compassionate professional help, and Tina needs to stay the hell away from her. Kit can bring Angie to Bette.

    3. Thank you..this is so hard to read, I have been where bette is. Different circumstances, but the same emotions, or lack of. It took a long time to crawl out of that hole, and even want to live again. truth be told, I am still climbing. Your words are EXACTLY how one feels in that dark, unforgiving place. Time, professional help, and good, strong, true friends help you out. But, the bottom line is you have to want to get out..she is truly at a pivital point. Either fall further, or start the slow climb out. Thanks again,Vampy

    4. Thank goodness most of us love Tina. Everything can’t be her fault. We all love Bette also, but without a strong loving woman at her side to make her feel stronger she is week, I can understand that a lot of her friends and family has left her, but she fought for equal right in her work place, to be the best in what she did, Yet her thought today is everyone leaves her. Why, She in the beginning started this and when Tina got tired, and left. Then she went down hill and Tina is to blane. She need a lot of help and fast. So Kit needs to do something as well as her friends. thanks

    5. Hello My Beautiful Dee… OMG your words are such raw power… that opening… Pandora’s Box… how you have weaved some of the most complex and powerful literatures within your already complex story just amazes me… your talents at crafting human emotions… fears… love… are just so powerful… I think that Tina is realizing just how much her actions over the last couple years have truly impacted Bette… not just taking Angelica away but also when she turned her back on her during the lose of ‘their’ son… yes we all know that Bette was controlling and the Bette did eventually succumb to ‘temptation’ but I fear that if Tina had opened her eyes and allowed Bette in during these times of morning… I really do hope that something… anything can pull Bette away from this dangerous pit she keeps falling into… depression is such a hard thing to cope with in ones life… it drains you of everything and heightens your fears and loathing… something you have portrayed so powerfully within your story… once again my friend you have completely stolen me away… you are an incredible talent and an incredible friend… thank you so much for inspiring me and shaking me with your powerful soul… “Every person is a new door to a different world.” Thank you for being a new door in my world my beautiful Dee… love and hugs, JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and ever loving Cuzzie to that ever Talented Eunichick)

    6. Yes, Bette has serious problems and Tina is a part of it but she is not completely at fault, the largest part is Bette and how she has allowed herself to drift. She is the only one that can get herself out of this with professional help and her own belief in herself and her self worth. She has to want to get better and get out of that morass that she has created in her mind. Great chapter. PPS

    7. We are happy to have you back! We missed you! Hmmm As we commented on earlier chapters, this is a hard story to read, because of the contents and in-depth emotional struggle. Surely Bette seems a shadow to her main personality. But we guess Tina’s rejection and withdrawal is what has hit her even further. Tina will need more than to say “I’m sorry”. Bette will require more than knowing that Angie will be her daughter in a short while. Yeah. Therapy and lots of happy times with Angie. Bette is just completely in a dark and unknown place. Thanks for updating. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks. – Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick)
