the beginning of a friendship, chapter 10

“T… Are you ok? You really scared me…”

    Tina:

The concern in her eyes was so sweet… and I wanted to be close to her… But I couldn’t… I had lied.. and I had to explain:

    “Bette… There’s something I have to tell you…”

I was so afraid… What if (Yeah… I told you I’m really great at ‘what-if-thinking’) She would be mad and would never talk to me again if I told her about the earring…

I felt awful and when she went and got us both some soup saying: “That can wait, T… I’ll get you some soup first… I bet you haven’t had anything to eat all day’ I had some time recollecting my thoughts… If I told her…

    *Who was I kidding… IF? I had to tell her… I couldn’t lie to her… I just couldn’t*

    Ok… When I told her… she could go running…

When Bette entered the room again, holding two mugs of soup I was breathing heavily…

‘Will you come and sit with me please… I really have to tell you…’

    Bette:

She was scaring the shit out of me with this whole I’ve-got-something-to-tell-you-thing

I couldn’t help it… I reached out to her again, softly touching her check causing her to look me in the eye… ‘It’s ok… you can tell me…’

    Tina:

I heard the hesitation and hoarseness of my voice when I started:

    ‘Well… you know… the earring? I didn’t actually lose it… I… just… I’

I heard the surprise in her voice when she finishhed my sentence ‘You left it there? For me?’

All I could do was nod…

    Bette:

*wowowowwwwwww Shane was right about the earringtrick? No… It can’t be… i mean… she’s straight… come on… Oh god… look at those ravishing eyes… she looks at me like a puppy who knows she has been bad… How could I get mad  at her… WHY would I get mad at her… *

I felt like jumping up and down and laughing out loud but instead I restraint myself and asked her quietly: ‘Why?’

I could see she almost started crying when I asked her that

    Tina:

‘I’m so sorry Bette… It must seem so pathetic… I mean, me… just a little counrtygirl, wanting to get in touch with you… But I felt this connection when I saw you… and I… I don’t have any friends here in LA… And I thought if I just leave that earring and you will like… you know…’

*Oh help that sounded so pathetic! D*mn… I was blowing this… and I didn’t exactly know why, but I couldn’t blow this…*

    Bette:

Looking at her… being so sad and so… lonely… I reached out to her hand, took it and squeezed it, again feeling this magical jolt through my body

‘It’s ok, I am very glad you did…T…’

    Tina:

Looking up, into those warm eyes, I saw she meant what she said… There wasn’t madness in her eyes, neither compassion… Just… something I couldn’t quite catch… But the look in her eyes, even not knowing what emotion was in them, made me feel good… reassured… And then she handed me the mug of soup, she smiled… And put her hand on mine causing a shiver to run up and down my spine

I smiled at her and hoarsly I asked: “T… huh… I like the sound of that’

    Bette:

I felt my face tun red and heard myself declare: ‘Wow… I called you T… I really hadn’t noticed’

She looked me straight in the eye… ‘I really like it, I’ve never had a one-lettre-nickname before’ She smiled shyly…

‘Well…’I said, raising my mug and urging her to do the same ‘Why don’t we prupose a toast???’

I saw in her eyes she didn’t understand so I explained…

“To the beginning of a friendship”

I saw that wonderfull smile again when she also raised her mug and repeated my words

“To the beginning of a friendship…”

    1. Great job. I’m happy these two are making progress. I hope for the moment when they can be together, and hopefully Tina will get of Eric. I’m not trying to rush. It’s always good to take things slow. But hey if they made an effort to see one another, then they’ll make an effort to be together. Great job Ms. Lady. Nice post and keep them coming. I’m waiting
