The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Tina (Part 2, Chapter 5)
She lifted her face then and I could tell she had been crying. Her mascara had run under her eyes. I took my index finger and tried to wipe it away. She smiled at me. The mascara was still there. I picked up a napkin on the table and dipped a corner of it in her drink. I cupped her face in one hand and with my other hand I wiped under both eyes. That worked.
The guy just watched with his mouth agape and said, “Now why didn’t I think of that?”
I surprised myself when I looked at him and said, “Because she doesn’t belong to you.”
He was taken aback. “You’re kidding me!” He looked at Bette who had a provocative smile on her face and then he looked at me. “Are you two…..together?”
I nodded, “For 21 years.”
“No fucking way.”
“Fucking way, Fabio,” I said, reaching over to take Bette by the arm. “Let’s go, darling.”
She stood up with that same grin on her face, turned to the man and said, “I told you, you weren’t my type.” Then she put her arm in mine and we walked away. She leaned toward me, “Damn Sissee, I never knew you had it in you.”
“Did he buy you a drink?”
“I wouldn’t let him.”
“Good girl, otherwise I’d go back and throw a ten on the table.”
“I think we should buy those girls a drink, though. They bought us one.”
I agreed. We went to the bar. After we ordered I looked at her and asked, “Are you alright?”
She shook her head. “Don’t get me started.”
“At least she returned your call.”
“Just so she could bitch at me and tell me I don’t have a leg to stand on.”
“That’s why she called you?”
“She said she was returning my calls about Angelica since, in her words, I sounded so pathetic.”
“Does she know where you are?”
“No.”
“And how’s Angie?”
“She’s fine. I got to talk to her. That’s when I cried. I swear she said, ‘mama’. It breaks my heart.”
“Did you ask Tina if you could see the baby?”
“Yes and she said, ‘Let the lawyers figure it out,’ and hung up on me.”
We got our drinks and went back to our tables. We watched the rest of the show. Bette ate some of her food and took photos, especially of the fire dance which was the last performance of the night. It finished just in time for us to see a glorious sunset. The four of us walked out on the beach and took each other’s pictures in front of the setting sun.
It was then that Patsy said that she and Linda were going to get married on Sunday morning and asked Bette and I to witness the ceremony.

Before I give my comment I just read what Bette’s Babe said about Patsy and Linda. I didn’t noticed before but she is right they are the young S and B. I find your story fascinating maybe that isn’t the correct word for it but it keeps me think on what will happen next or what they are feeling. That’s why this update made me wonder how angry S much feel towards Tina. She knows Bette has her faults but then again she sees the hurt of not letting Angie near Bette is destroying her. She must feel helpless and angry at the same time. I wonder if there will be a time in your story that S will talk to Tina.
Two new posts! Great! Too bad that Tina’s call was not more positive for Bette. But I guess it was to be expected…after all she took Angelica away…Can’t wait to see Bette and Sissy back together. Thanks for posting!
I’ve always loved Tina, but when she treated Bette so bad it was hard to like her. Hope Sissee can make things better.
Another good chapter to read here, Sissee, I agree with kb about T treating B badly, and really rooting for Sissee to make B feeling better. This time you introduced two new characters – Patsy and Linda. I would like to ask you this, Sissee, am I right if I said the purpose of the new characters was to bring about younger version of S & B to the picture, that is, to point out the societal changes of view with regard to same sex relationship?
My dear readers, Please forgive all my typos above. It’s late and I am coming down from several drinks tonight. I best get to bed before I embarrass myself even more. Nite, nite.
kbergin47, I know we all struggled with Laurel’s character in the 2006 season. That’s why I ran with this theme. I know we have loyal Tina fans here so I ask them to forgive me in advance for what is about to happen to Bette and Sissee.
September, I very much like your choice of the “fascinating” word to describe my story. Thank you for that. As for your question of whether or not Sissee will ever talk to Tina, the answer is, abolutely. I hope you’ll still be with us when that happens.
Bette’s Babe, I like your thinking I brought in two new characters to show how times have changed. I wash I had been that clever when I wrote it in 2006. But the truth is, I was with a friend at just such a luau and these characters did exist there. You might say, I ran with it and gave them a life beyond the luau.
brouhaha, I’ve had a very busy two days because of the holiday so I am sorry to be behind in my comments. Yes, you saw two posts because I try to post a new chapter per 300 hits but I see I wasn’t around for that this time. I will post the next chapter tomorrow. Meanwhile, thanks for your comment. You haven’t posted for a while so it’s good to “see” you.
