The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Howie (Part 2, Chapter 7)
PART TWO: NEW HAVEN, CONNETICUT
Chapter 7
We stood topside at the railing of the ship that would soon embark from New Haven Harbor for our dinner cruise. We had been handed a glass of champagne as we boarded and sipped it slowly as we looked down at all the boats moored in their slips. There were a lot of people milling about with an aura of excitement in the air.
Bette was inspired to call Angelica to tell her about the boats so while she was doing that I checked in with Kyle and Charlie. I was glad to know everything was fine with them. Bette and I traded phones back and forth. She said hi to the boys and I said hello to the baby.
Mary had been text messaging us all day. Tonight she was going to Stiles Little Theater located in Silliman’s basement with a group of girls. I gave her a call to see if I could catch her and when she answered, she said they were standing in line to see improvisational comedy on stage. I could tell she surely did not miss us. She was having a ball!
It felt good for me to talk to all three of my kids and know that each of them was doing great. Charlie especially, was a concern but he was attending his meetings like he was supposed to and recovery was working for him.
Bette had talked briefly to Tina prior to Angelica and even though I had a phone in my ear too, I glanced at her face as they exchanged words. I always knew more about what Bette was thinking by looking at her than by hearing what she was saying and sometimes I thought I saw the ember of a spark in her eyes that was still smoldering for that person she had lived with for eight years. It was never so obvious for me to make an issue out of but I was storing it up and knew it would come out someday – maybe sooner than later.
Bette had reserved a table on the top deck which we found easily after the ship had left the dock. It was a cozy, small table for two, in the center floor so we could see both sides of the harbor. Almost as soon as we sat down a waiter brought us a bottle of Chardonnay, prearranged by Bette. He opened it and went through the ceremony of allowing Bette to try it first. She nodded her approval and when he was gone, we tapped our glasses together and both said, “To love, lust and a damn good chardonnay,“ making reference to a new play we had heard about and had said it would make a good toast. We both remembered to use it and laughed.

Sissie the writer, I am so glad that Bette and Sissee talked things out and not letting it buried under the rug. The communication part is cruical for their relationship. When I first read about Sis’s doubt, I was so worried that they would drift apart. Now they shared how they felt about their relationship (a solid one), I have a good feel of great ending between the two of them! :-)
Yes I agree – you continue to write in such a wonderful, flowing way (plus you can actually spell and keep the story in the right tense!!!!. I really like the relationship between these two.
I was just starting to feel confident about their relationship & now Sis is having doubts. It’s to be expected I guess since both have had long term partners. I’m glad Sis brought it up & they talked it thru. Thanks!
Bette’s Babe, Sissee the writer will always have Bette and Sissee the character talk things through because that was a major problem between Bette and Tina. They didn’t know how to talk or else the writer’s wouldn’t let them. We were always left with untied strings dangling unfinished, leaving us to fill in the blanks. I make up for it here.
Jazzluv, I am happy to hear from you, particularly before the next chapter which is all about JAZZZZZZZ. With that moniker, I hope you will enjoy it. Thanks for your kind words. You must be a reader of a lot of fanfic to know the difference. I’m glad you gave my story a chance.
Kbergine47, You always think of something to say and I appreciate your being a loyal reader. I guess it is natural for partners to be concerned about previous loves. I just felt it had to be addressed now and then. I honestly must say that I enjoyed this chapter myself in the rereading of it. I particularly liked the playful slap on Sissee’s butt by Bette. It was kind of like an exclamation mark at the end of her reassurance.
i was so sure this chapter was gonna be the using of “the toys” but i’m so glad you wrote about this sis, it is human nature to sometimes have doubts when you think everything is going too good and you’re so in love, the way you had them talk was good and i love how bette calmed her and then to finish it off with a slap on the arse…loved it! i like fun bette!!
Mushy, Gee, what a nice post. It’s just plain “nice” and I enjoyed reading it. I would have been remiss if I just went along without mentioning their exes from time to time because it really would happen. Sissee doesn’t really HAVE to see Howie, like Bette HAS to see Tina because of the baby exchanges. So there is that constant reminder but you are right, Bette smoothed things out. This couple truly knows how to communicate.
wow, awesome sissee..thanks for the beautiful update and i must say that was quick in deed(smile)..kudos to u for treating ur fans so good..c u soon sissee
Gummy Bear, Thanks for being here. When I have the time you will get these chapters faster but when they slow down then you know I am busy in the real world.
