That’s What Friends Are For [Chapter Ten]

Instead of lying in bed for any longer, she decided to do something productive.

It was a Friday, so as usual; Tina suspected that Bette had gone to work earlier in the morning. She stripped down to her underwear as she prepared herself to go in the shower, but she decided that she would go get a drink before she went in.

“I better ring her and give her an earful.” Tina thought out loud.

“Too bad, she’s already on the phone.”

As soon as she heard the first syllable of what he said, she jumped. Tina spun around wide-eyed, to face Melvin – who was focused on his paper.

    “What-huh-who-Oh my God.”

She hurried back into the bedroom and loudly slammed the door, causing Bette to briskly get off the phone see what the commotion was about.

“What is wrong?” Bette asked, walking into the living area. “What was all that noise?”

“There is a naked blond in the house. She was completely oblivious to my presence and wandered in here without any clothing on.” Melvin explained. Bette could hear the slight disgust and/or disappointment in his voice, but she said nothing of it.

    “Tina…”

    “And who is she?”

“Tina Kennard, my girlfriend.” She studied his features as she tried to work out how he’d take the news. It almost seemed like he hadn’t heard, but Bette knew he had. “I am going to go check on her, I’ll be right back.”

When she entered the bedroom, Tina was nowhere to be seen. Bette approached the bathroom door and knocked upon it softly.

    “Tee, are you okay?”

“I’m fine.” Tina snapped, “I’ll be out soon, I need to shower.”

Bette flinched at the harshness of her words, but she did deserve it. “Do you want some coffee?”

“I’ll get some myself when I come out.”

She contemplated turning around and rejoining her father in the living area, but she couldn’t take the fact that Tina was annoyed with her so instead, opened the bathroom door and entered.

Tina was sat down on the floor, her back against the wall and her face buried between her knees.

    1. I think Tina delt with Melvin fine if Bette can’t stand up to him someone should. Melvin is the one that needs to chill Bette is a grown woman she is successful and educated so he should stay out of her personal life. If he doesn’t like it he shouldn’t come around.

    2. But, please, someone could explain to me why…why people worry about someone who didn´t give a shit to their feelings, like Melvin?! It´s rethorical, cause i already know is low self esteem, guilty complex, but please… Say something, Bette! Great chap! Thanks!:)

    3. I think one thing some people may be forgetting is that Tina was assaulted. I immediately thought of that when she dropped the knife and cut her foot. She may be guarding herself overtime when it comes to men in general and with Melvin not liking her for some stupid reason it may hurt even more because he’s connected to Bette. Anyway, what DID crawl up Melvin’s ass and die?
