Suddenly an angel… or is it two? **REPOST** Chapters 2 and 2.5
Jean Paul gasped and gave Bette a horrified look at the prospect of his valuable sculptures being tossed away. She gave him a look that said she wasn’t just bluffing. Oh she had this in her pocket already. This little douchebag thought he was getting away with this? #bitchplease.
“Gentlemen, I got nothing left to do here, so if you’ll excuse me” She collected her stuff and walked to the door. Right before she left, she turned around “It’s your call, Jean Paul, take it or leave it, because I’m not dealing with a little French prick like you” she turned in her heels and marched out to her office, leaving everybody astounded.
She had almost made it to the stairs when she heard hurried footsteps
“Bette! Bette!”
She smiled to herself before turning “Yes Jean Paul?”
“Ah you heartless woman” he spoke “I will leave my piezes here at the zee A zee” he said
“Excellent, glad to see you came to your senses. I will have James cancel the dumpster we had ordered for your pieces” and with that, she walked up the stairs to her office, not turning to see Jean Paul’s horrified expression. Today could still be a good day.
Later that day…
Bette was in her office, standing studying the prints scattered over her desk; she was thinking of a better layout for the pieces, something didn’t feel quite right, and she wasn’t leaving till she figured out a solution. James’ voice broke through the intercom
“Eh, Bette?” James hesitated
“Yes James?”
“There’s a lawyer on the phone for you, she says it’s a family matter”
Family? Bette thought, confused. What the hell was that about? As far as she knew Kit was alright, she had just talked to her a couple of days ago. And if something had happened to her dad she would know already. “Ok, give me a minute and then put her through”
“Sure thing boss”
Bette took a moment to collect her thoughts, scribbled down some notes and sat down to pick up the call she wasn’t expecting.
“Bette Porter”
“Miss Porter? This is Rita Thorndike, from Chicago”
“O-K Rita Thorndike from Chicago, this is Bette Porter from Los Angeles, what can I do for you?” Bette had no idea who this woman was or why she was calling all the way from Chicago to waste her time.
