Suddenly an angel…or is it two? **REPOST** – Chapter 1
Los Angeles, California
West Hollywood.
A cellphone screen comes to life while the lyrics of Pink’s "Slut Like You" start blasting through its speakers. After a few seconds, a lump under the covers grunts while a mocha manicured hand reaches out from between the sheets to the nightstand to shut the offending sound off, but fails to do so, since the cellphone is on the floor right by the nightstand.
"Ughh" Bette grunts again as the sound keeps increasing in volume. Why did she set that ringtone to start with?
She throws the covers off her lithe body and stretches. At this point, the sound has seeped into her brain and managed to wake her sleeping brain up. A tired yet satisfied smile appears on her face. Oh yes, she was exhausted, but the good kind of exhausted. Ah that Mya girl might be younger, but she sure knows what she’s doing. Bette mused.
She reached down for the cellphone and pressed some buttons to turn the alarm off. While checking her messages, she frowned. She had two messages from Mya. Wait, I never gave her my number. Great, another psychopath, Bette scoffed. She ran a tired hand over her face, she’d have to do something about that girl during the day. Why couldn’t some girls understand that she didn’t want a relationship, just sex for what it was, for just fun, no strings attached, without the ties and that meh factor that a relationship brings. She always made sure that all of the girls she slept with knew the deal, although -as it seems to be the current case- there was always the girl who thought she was ‘the one’ who could change Bette Porter. Of course, they ended disappointed and depressed, but they knew the deal, it was their wishful thinking that they could make Bette Porter change.
Yes, Bette Porter wasn’t the relationship kind of woman. But why should she be that way? why should she be tied down when she was at her best? Bette Porter was at the top of the art world. At 29, she was the curator at the California Arts Centre. Valedictorian of her class, Yale graduate summa cum laude, curator of many museums and shows all over the world: The Tate, the D’orsay, MOMA, etc. Bette Porter was nothing but accomplishments in her professional life. If someone had to use just one word to describe her, it would most definitely be successful.
