Shadows in the Dark – A Writers Challenge

Tina clutched the sheet to her breast, looking over Alice’s head at Bette. Catching Bette’s eye she struggled to stay calm and the face of this preposterous story of Alice’s.
“Alice” Tina started gently, “I know you’ve not had the best time since you’ve been here but really there is no Jenny. I’m sure there is a reasonable explanation. What would you say if I have Bette here go with you to where you think?”
“Saw … Saw Tina I didn’t imagine it. I saw her.” Alice said cutting Tina off.
“OK saw Jenny. But what if I have Bette take you to the window and look out at the lake and see if we can’t find a good explanation. I’m sure there is something simple that can make this all go away.” Tina offered thinking it’s the only way to settle this crisis.
“No … no I’m not going back over there.. not!” Alice began but got cut off by an impatient Bette.
“Alice you are and will be going over to show me what you think you saw. If you think I’m going to let you stay in my bed for another minute you have really lost all your marbles. Don’t you think I have better things to be doing right now then to demonstrate what an overactive imagination you have? Now GET OUT OF MY BED!” Bette barked.
The urgency in Bette’s command had the desired effect on Alice. She jumped now more afraid of Bette than any vision of Jenny. “OK … OK I’ll show you.” Alice declared.
Bette began to get out of bed when she realized Alice is still in the room. “TURN AROUND Alice, do you mind?  I need to put my robe on before we go anywhere.”
Alice quickly turned around as Bette got up while muttering under her breath. “I swear to God that woman is not getting one drop of alcohol for the rest of this trip. I don’t care if I have to personally smash every damn bottle myself to keep it away from her.”
“Babe” Tina said trying to get Bette’s attention. She waited until Bette turned to look at her. “Be easy with her I know she’s a little out there sometimes but I think she’s really scared.”
