Saturday Night’s Invite (Time of Day 30)
“You like that, Boo?” Bette asked, looking at the half-empty bowl in front of her daughter.
“No,” Angelica said with a giggle.
“So, if it’s no, then I can take it, right?” Bette flexed her fingers, moving her hand towards the bowl.
“No,” Angelica squealed, giving a giggle.
Tina sat back, watching the interplay between the two.
Even at its relaxing pace, dinner came to an end. What followed was a small bit of clean-up, clearing things to the kitchen, at least. Then giving Angelica a bath and getting her ready for bed.
This brought another of those awkward times, broached by Bette. “I know it’s your weekend, but I could lay her down here. That is, if you’d like to stay for a while, T?”
Running through a litany of responses, each with a well-justified reason, Tina had to admit that she did want to stay for a while. She wanted the chance to spend time with Bette, just the two of them. “Yes, I would.”
Bette’s smile in response spoke volumes.
Three books and several rounds of good-night kisses later, Angelica was tucked under the covers, and Bette and Tina retired to the living room.
Each had a glass of red from a bottle that Bette had wanted to try.
Tina took a seat at one end of the couch.
Bette sat close, but not too close. She swirled her wine in the glass, checking the color and clarity under the light.
“Everything’s been so special today, Bette.”
“Does this mean I’m forgiven?”
“It means…” Tina wasn’t sure what exactly it meant. Forgiven? For last weekend? For more? Did more still need to be forgiven?
She was again brought from her musing by Bette’s touch. Bette leaned over her to place her wine glass on the end table, then laid her hand on Tina’s knee.
“T, relax. It’s just us.”
“It’s never just us, Bette.” She spoke the words quickly, almost regretting speaking so quickly, without thinking.
The silence made Tina wonder what was going through Bette’s thoughts. “You’re right,” Bette said, finally. “And last week shows that I still have work to do.”
“We both have work to do,” Tina responded, earnest. She knew she couldn’t just blame Bette for their past. “I don’t want to be angry anymore.”
“If you still want, if you’ll still have me, I would like to try.” Bette lightly stroked Tina’s leg. “I’d like for us to have another start.”
A thousand thoughts raced through Tina’s mind. So many words, terms, issues. Trust. Love. Forgiveness. Thoughts that described what they would need to address, together. But being together took a first step. “I would like,” Tina admitted. She took Bette’s hand in her own, giving it a squeeze.
Bette leaned in closer. “Good,” she said, leaning in for a kiss.
A gentle kiss. Followed by another, this one had Bette’s tongue tracing along Tina’s lips, requesting entrance. With the third kiss, Bette’s hand had found its way to Tina’s face, lightly stroking her fingertips along Tina’s cheek and jawline.
At this point, Tina’s thoughts were beginning to muddy. The day. The meal. The wine. Bette. All combined to overload her senses. She pulled back for a moment, recapturing her wits.
Bette. So close. Stroking her face. So beautiful, confident. Bette speaking.
“Stay.”
One word. So much meaning.
How to answer? Tina took in a deep breath, debating her response. Considering all, she knew what she must say.
(the end)

OMG you are writing another chapter as we speak to post tonight, right?
Well, just my humble opinion, but I say, Tina, get up and go…don’t let a massage, house cleaning and a bottle of red wine solve all your problems. And Bette needs to do more than set up a relaxing experience for her, she needs to live her life and control her temper so that she proves to Tina that she isn’t going to snap over some hear say…I’m glad they are on the right road, I just think they should work a bit harder at it. Bette she persue Tina on dates and Tina should play hard to get. Love the story, please post soon…
Go home Tina!!! You have nothing to gain by staying!! Don’t be so easy! Well ,take it slowly, Bette hasn’t even rebounded from Jodie, and here she is begging you … (didn’t mean to be so opinionated)…but they have very few times left to repair their relationship … the love will always be there but sometimes the drama can kill a good thing…
Forgot to say …love the story!, I smile “Bette-Like” when I see a new post! Until the next “Time”….
Tantalizing.
WOW that was just lovely! I so hope this is how the story pans out next year! PPS
My thoughts in song: Should I stay or should I go nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww? I actually agree with a couple of prior commenters. Jodi left like, 15 seconds ago and now Bette is wanting Tina. Or maybe I just put too much value on sex. *shrugs*
I can’t BELIEVE I’m saying this.. but Tina should haul her ass home. Try some dating Bette with out sex involved to see if they can get over their issues. At this point we haven’t even had them discuss anything major. Plus, I think Bette needs to prove she wants Tina.. only Tina. And is willing to trust her above others. Only a few days ago Bette was trusting her slimy ex-Jodi over the mother of her child. That was way too sketch to forget about after a day of some pampering. PPS.
I would be very surprised if Tina stays over. This story is great. PPS.
Tina’s gonna leave…I just know she will. She should anyway. One day of pampering doesn’t wash all of the problems. They should date. Can’t wait to see what happens. Love this story.
STAY TINA… a little bit of loving will help break the barriers…it doesn’t mean T has to move back in etc but it helps overcome the hurts to love them away and brings them to a deeper more spiritual level with one another rather than the focus on ‘she did this, and I did this’…in fact I thought B over-reacted to the ‘more babies thing’ but it seems both of them want to hang onto their reservations…move on I say.
sex to me is the art of loving, B loves T and T loves B…love each other and stop the old mind from putting up inconsequential barriers like they did to each other in s1-s3…like Bette would really like another child and so would T so whats the friggin’ hassle Bette Porter????? Tina loves Bette so again whats the frickin’ hassle Tina Kennard? grow up and date…dating nowadays usually includes intimacy…holding hands, kissing, making love…doesn’t it?????
WOW!i really want then to be together but,why rush it isnt that whats been done in the past.dont be the rebound women its soo not worth it. go home tina. excellent story.p.p.s.
As much as I want Tina to stay it is probably not a good idea for that to happen. Both need a little more time to work on their issues. Besides if it is worth it to both of them then a little extra time away from each other would help their effort in the long run.
Stay and just hold each other. They should take it slow and enjoy the courtship. Thanks pseud..PPS
i think i’m in minority here but if i was tina i would say YES…
Captivating…hope you’ll post the next one soon. Thanks.
Love this story soooo much. And I’m with Janbear … “stay”ing doesn’t necessarily mean shagging all night long. They can should hold each other all night long, that sort of intimacy … ‘course, either way is fine, staying and just sleeping or stayng and doing other things. or not staying. i just love this story so much …
TEASE!!!! But I so Love it!!!! Thanks PPS
Staying doesn’t mean sex. But with the wine and how she’s feeling more relaxed around Bette, it seems like it could happen and that wouldn’t be what they need now. Tina should stay if only to make herself feel more secure in starting over with Bette. Anyway I’m so glad you updated. Thanks.
I think that should probably be a (reluctant) no, unless she’s staying in the guest room. They’ve got too much ground to cover to erase it all with a (granted, maybe not-so) quick shag. Wanting to and agreeing to start over is a big step. They know they love each other, so there’s that to fall back on. That’s at least something, isn’t it? Small moves. Great post, pseud, more (I posted on the other mini-chap already) when you can, please. Thanks
IMO You are a great writer and They should keep talking and then sleep in one another’s arms – sex definitely but later now COMMUNICATION but commitment.
nope were the ones being spoiled. thanks.
Sometimes jet lag, waking up at 3 a.m. can be a good thing, like when I get to catch up on this story. : )
Good chapter!
