Saturday Night’s Invite (Time of Day 30)

Dinner was a roasted salmon filet, roasted vegetables, and a light herb risotto. “What do you think?” Bette asked as they set out the food.

“I think I’m running out of adjectives.” Tina gave a shrug. “I’d hate for you to think I don’t appreciate it all, but it’s almost to the level of overwhelming.”

“Don’t be overwhelmed. Just enjoy.” Bette looked at her daughter. “Ready for some dinner, Boo?”

“Yes,” Angelica declared, giving a shake of the head. Tina placed the girl in a high chair, tucking a bib around her neck to protect the dress.

They had shared few meals together, just the three of them. What was more common was a group setting that included Kit, or more of their friends. The rarity of the occurrence worked to make the dinner more special.

Eating together, just the three of them. They were like a family.

At that thought, Tina could feel her emotions building.

    “What?” Bette asked.

    “It’s silly.”

Bette waited, patient, for Tina to continue.

“Really,” Tina said, waving off the thought. “I’m just enjoying all of this. Really.”

    “Promise?”

“I feel so pampered.” She looked at Angelica. “And I thought she was the spoiled one in this family.”

    “I spoil all my women.”

The words hit her oddly. ‘Her’ woman. Was that what she was destined to become again? An extension of Bette? ‘Relax.’ Back to the mantra.

    “Hey?”

The feel of Bette’s touch on Tina’s hand brought her back to the present. “You sure nothing’s wrong?”

“I’m…” Tina wondered if she could explain such a strong reaction to what was, at best, a toss-away quip without sounding like she was over-reacting. “Yes. I’m sure. This is all just a little different for me.”

“It is, but is that necessarily a bad thing?”

“No,” Tina agreed. “Not necessarily bad at all.”

    “Good.”

They completed the meal with light banter, skirting any talk that might imply the state of their relationship in the present, or in the near future.

Dinner was topped with a fresh sorbet. Raspberry and blueberry, which added up to one child with a very red-stained mouth.

    1. Well, just my humble opinion, but I say, Tina, get up and go…don’t let a massage, house cleaning and a bottle of red wine solve all your problems. And Bette needs to do more than set up a relaxing experience for her, she needs to live her life and control her temper so that she proves to Tina that she isn’t going to snap over some hear say…I’m glad they are on the right road, I just think they should work a bit harder at it. Bette she persue Tina on dates and Tina should play hard to get. Love the story, please post soon…

    2. Go home Tina!!! You have nothing to gain by staying!! Don’t be so easy! Well ,take it slowly, Bette hasn’t even rebounded from Jodie, and here she is begging you … (didn’t mean to be so opinionated)…but they have very few times left to repair their relationship … the love will always be there but sometimes the drama can kill a good thing…

    3. My thoughts in song: Should I stay or should I go nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww? I actually agree with a couple of prior commenters. Jodi left like, 15 seconds ago and now Bette is wanting Tina. Or maybe I just put too much value on sex. *shrugs*

    4. I can’t BELIEVE I’m saying this.. but Tina should haul her ass home. Try some dating Bette with out sex involved to see if they can get over their issues. At this point we haven’t even had them discuss anything major. Plus, I think Bette needs to prove she wants Tina.. only Tina. And is willing to trust her above others. Only a few days ago Bette was trusting her slimy ex-Jodi over the mother of her child. That was way too sketch to forget about after a day of some pampering. PPS.

    5. Tina’s gonna leave…I just know she will. She should anyway. One day of pampering doesn’t wash all of the problems. They should date. Can’t wait to see what happens. Love this story.

    6. STAY TINA… a little bit of loving will help break the barriers…it doesn’t mean T has to move back in etc but it helps overcome the hurts to love them away and brings them to a deeper more spiritual level with one another rather than the focus on ‘she did this, and I did this’…in fact I thought B over-reacted to the ‘more babies thing’ but it seems both of them want to hang onto their reservations…move on I say.

    7. sex to me is the art of loving, B loves T and T loves B…love each other and stop the old mind from putting up inconsequential barriers like they did to each other in s1-s3…like Bette would really like another child and so would T so whats the friggin’ hassle Bette Porter????? Tina loves Bette so again whats the frickin’ hassle Tina Kennard? grow up and date…dating nowadays usually includes intimacy…holding hands, kissing, making love…doesn’t it?????

    8. WOW!i really want then to be together but,why rush it isnt that whats been done in the past.dont be the rebound women its soo not worth it. go home tina. excellent story.p.p.s.

    9. As much as I want Tina to stay it is probably not a good idea for that to happen. Both need a little more time to work on their issues. Besides if it is worth it to both of them then a little extra time away from each other would help their effort in the long run.

    10. Love this story soooo much. And I’m with Janbear … “stay”ing doesn’t necessarily mean shagging all night long. They can should hold each other all night long, that sort of intimacy … ‘course, either way is fine, staying and just sleeping or stayng and doing other things. or not staying. i just love this story so much …

    11. Staying doesn’t mean sex. But with the wine and how she’s feeling more relaxed around Bette, it seems like it could happen and that wouldn’t be what they need now. Tina should stay if only to make herself feel more secure in starting over with Bette. Anyway I’m so glad you updated. Thanks.

    12. I think that should probably be a (reluctant) no, unless she’s staying in the guest room. They’ve got too much ground to cover to erase it all with a (granted, maybe not-so) quick shag. Wanting to and agreeing to start over is a big step. They know they love each other, so there’s that to fall back on. That’s at least something, isn’t it? Small moves. Great post, pseud, more (I posted on the other mini-chap already) when you can, please. Thanks

    13. IMO You are a great writer and They should keep talking and then sleep in one another’s arms – sex definitely but later now COMMUNICATION but commitment.
