    Just at that time, Alice‘s phone ring.

     

    “Take this to Carmen will you?” she asked Dana as she took another quick sip.  “I’ll be right out” she said as she reached for the phone on the counter.

     

    Hearing the phone ring, Tina looked up to watch Alice‘s side of the conversation.  She guessed that it was Bette calling to say that she was not coming.  She had been watching the door for the last thirty minutes, waiting for her to appear.  The later it got though, the more she realized that she was probably not going to show.  She had figured that there was a chance that she wouldn’t come, but it did not help the huge disappointment that she felt knowing that she was not going to see Bette.

     

    Excusing herself from the conversation that she was having with Jenny, she made her way to the kitchen just as Alice was hanging up the phone.

     

    “Bette?” she asked as Alice turned to face her.

     

    “Yep” she answered.

     

    “Let me guess.  She’s not coming.”

     

    “You should play the lottery today, TK ’cause you is right” she smiled at her friend.

     

    “Aside from my presence, why did she say that she wasn’t coming?”

     

    “Believe it or not, I really don’t think it’s because of you.  She didn’t even ask if you were here actually.”

     

    “So, what did she say?”

     

    “Didn’t sleep last night, long day and has a headache” she said as she held up a finger with each reason.

     

    “Was she still at the gallery?” she asked with concern.

     

    “Yep, but on her way home.”

     

    “Damnit” she said as she rubbed the back of her neck.  “I shouldn’t have ever come” she said more to herself than to Alice.

     

    “T, don’t be ridiculous.  You should definitely be here and we’re happy that you are here.  You didn’t hear me say you’re presence was one of the reasons she wasn’t coming did you?” she asked as she peered into Tina’s down turned face.

     

    “No” she sighed.  “But I’m certainly not a reason for her to make an appearance.”

     

    “Maybe not” agreed Alice.  “But perhaps one of these days” she smiled.

    9. This story is yummy! I’m a sucker for the fall guy…poor Lee, she seems so nice, too bad she’s going to be the one that gets hurt! I was thinking that Tina was going to go over to Bette’s when she said she wasn’t coming…I sure hope she doesn’t go over now!

This is the first time that I’m leaving a comment on your posting but I just want to let you know that I love your writing and that I really appreciate what you’ve been sharing with us readers. I haven’t read this chapter yet but I’m working hard on trying to catch up. Now, back to my reading and will leave more comments once I’m all caught up.

    18. “I just sometimes wonder if I’ll ever be able to make her understand.” Yeah, me too. On another note, Lee’s right, her relationship with Bette will change (is changing…i.e. their conversation & the outpouring of emotion from Bette). It’s good that she recognizes this upfront so she can start preparing herself for, well… so she can start preparing herself period. And Skip, I’ll have you know that I will not ‘skip’ this story even if you don’t honor my request. Okay, the whole Bette backing over T with her car was a bit harsh but I was all riled up after reading that previous chapter. *shakes head in shame* It took me forever to calm down. I even cringed when I saw this post from you. I’ll play fair from now on. Please forgive me. I like Tina. I like a healthy Tina. Repeat 100 times. Your writing is so dynamic yet delicate. What a balance. What an undeniable talent you have. Whew.

    19. Lee and Bette’s relationship has shifted, Lee is so right…Tina has got a hell of a job on her hands to get Bette back, I don’t think Lee is going to give up so easily. Thank you.
