Bette had thought about calling Tina after her lunch that afternoon with Judith to tell her about getting the Trope exhibit but hesitated, she was unsure if Tina would want to hear from her while she was staying with Sam. Honestly Bette wasn’t exactly sure what the rules were now. She finally decided Tina has her phone number if she wanted to learn about the exhibit. Otherwise it would probably be better to give her a call when Bette got back to LA.
Dinner with Helena was an event. Waiters seamlessly passed their table leaving a taste of this, a sample of that; always accompanying every course with the proper wine. Bette wondered when it was she got a little drunk.
Smiling she focused on her dinner companion who was telling a funny story involving Alice and an Aston Martin. Bette tried not to grow irritated with Helena’s fondness for and apparent familiarity with Bette and Tina’s friends.

“If you plan on staying into next week I insist you stay at the house,” Helena was swaying her glass back and forth a bit over her sorbet, but sounded sober enough.
Bette started to protest when Helena cut her off firmly, “Bette. I’m leaving in the morning for the weekend, I’ll be on Fire Island until at least Monday morning, so as you can see it would be ludicrous for you not to stay and enjoy the house.”
Bette’s eyes narrowed a bit.
“It would seem Fire Island is going to be a bit crowded this weekend Helena. Tina is going to a fundraiser there on Sunday.”
Helena paused, blinking back at Bette in surprise.
Her voice dropped a bit lower.
“She’s attending the HRC party? Of course she is… Christ, this is all getting more Noel Coward by the minute.”
Bette gave the heiress a curious smile.
Helena leaned across the table, offering Bette a slightly intoxicated, somewhat conspiratorial grin:
“Tina was MY date to this party last June.”
Bette stared at her for a long moment.
“Tina? You took Tina to the same dance last year? On Fire Island?” Bette spoke slowly and precisely.
Helena laughed. “I’m quite positive. I was the Chairwoman last year, so I was reasonably sober.”

I have absolutely no problem believing the biggest of coincidences if they come written in a story peppered with sentences like “Oh please. Revolting enough I have to admit the woman loved you, not me. Don’t think for a minute I’m going to cheer you up about it too.” This was great, I’m glad you decided to continue with it
Implausible, plausible… doesn’t matter when the story is so well written. Love the open and honest Bette/Helena dialogue and just hope it continues as Bette decides to stay the weekend. Would hate for Bette to miss Tina in the fashion show dress!

i think it’s totalay plausable that this is one great story…i wonder if Bette is gonna go to Fire island now
I say Helena invites Bette to Fire Island as friends but Helena decides she is going to help Bette get Tina back by making Tina jealous of the fact that Bette is now her date this year. Of course Bette won’t know what Helena is up to. Sam has to know she is NEVER going to get forever with Tina.
I’m thoroughly enjoying this story… so glad you’re continuing it. I hope Tina and Bette makes plans to get together when they get back to LA so they can continue to work out their issues. Neither one of them has moved on….they still belong together.
Hahahaha…I loved that line…”Oh please, I seem to be running into Tina’s ex-lovers and girlfriends all over the place.” Zuzu…I also like the concept of Helena teaming up with Bette to try and get Tina and Bette back together again. I always thought that Bette and Helena could be a real force to be reckoned with if they ever stuck together on something. Great update!
So Tina still has heart flutters over Bette and I dare say so does Bette. Can’t wait to see what happens at Fire Island.
I am so pleased to see this story continue – I liked it when you started and had accepted the fact that you might not continue after so much time elapsed – so when I saw the title come up recently I was elated. Such a good story. I hope the computer and life cooperate for this summer so you can write on . . .
