Out of Closet (TiBette time-travel romance), Ch. 68, Finale part 4C: Chapter: Last curtain – The End is Here, finally.

“What’s in the document?” Tina asked anxiously.

Alice made a show of looking around to make sure no one was watching them and replied quietly, “Not here. It’s pretty serious. We need to get home pronto and formulate a new plan. Before we go though, Agent McHottie asked Bette to stay put. I think they might have more questions.”

She noticed both FBI agents walking towards them and finished rapidly, “Bette, I mentioned to them that I called you and told about Helena’s attempt to roofie Tina while you were on your way from the airport. You came in through the grove entrance on the back. Remember, we made it all up about the time travel to mess with Helena.”

Just then Agent Johnson and McKinnon reached them. “Ms. Porter our recent interview with your friend here revealed a few major developments in our case,” the male agent said.

Bette asked calmly, “And what would that be, Agent Johnson?”

“Um…it was brought to our attention that you…are…um…a time traveler,” Agent Johnson finished quietly, as if realizing how ridiculous it sounded.

Bette laughed heartily, “You people are amazing, and I don’t mean it as a compliment. First, you accuse me of being a drug trafficker and now I’m a time traveler? Was I also exporting drugs from the distant past?”

Agent Johnson’s face registered confusion but he quickly recovered. “Obviously it’s not our normal case.” He thought for a moment and chuckled, “It’s a paranormal case. Get it? Para-normal.”

Both Alice and Agent McKinnon rolled her eyes. Alice said, “Come on, what is it? X-Files universe? I already told you that we made everything up. We lied to trap Helena into acting and sounding like a raving lunatic. You don’t have any proof.”

“That’s true. All we have is Ms. Peabody’s story and Professor Kroll’s testimony. If you made it all up then you won’t object to an MRI of your brain, Ms. Porter?” Agent McKinnon replied.

“Why?” Bette was genuinely puzzled at the request.

“According to Professor Kroll…” Agent Johnson took his notebook out and read, “When an animate object passes through a wrinkle in time and enters a different space continuum, their brain waves change and possibly present certain anomalies, only visible through powerful magnetic fields.” He paused, visibly proud of himself and added with a shrug, “As it happens, we have our own small lab here in the building. It’s not Quantico by any means but is sufficient for our needs.”

    1. Thank you for the chapter!

But ohhh – no. I’m hopping Candace grabbing not Bette’s hand, but Helena’s. Both brunettes, both in dark cloaks. It could be, isn’t it?

Please post soon, we need epilogue ASAP! :)

    2. Is this really the end? Not exactly a happily ever after ending in my opinion….

I think Alice’s explanation to the FBI is perfectly feasible. I would think that the FBI would have not put their criminal investigators on a case of claimed time travel but a special division who dealt with phenomena which were rumored to exist for which was not generally accept principles of nature – such as flying sauces, Big Foot, time travel, and aliens, etc. I would expect that the FBI would treat people like Helena and the Professor as slightly off their rocker…but this is fiction.

Now… I’m not sure that Bette and Tina have much control on where this portal takes them, but I assume its a single opening and a single exit. And reading about life in the 19th century and living it are two different things. Living in a community without electricity, indoor pluming, shoes designed to be worn on a left or right foot, no communication devices, and a life where the vast majority of time is spent acquiring money or food. A society where women are not just 2nd class citizens but for the most house holds domestic servants to men. A society in which homosexual attraction has to be hidden and never acknowledged even to the closest family member. And of course, the skill set need by Bette and Tina to survive? Being odd is not going to be their only problem. I’m not sure when you look at how hard that life would be, that running from the likes of Helena, Candace and the Professor is not a much better option.

Your story is unique and has been very entertaining. I for one have found the concept of time travel to be fascinating. But the thought of going to a time that was not my own and be trapped indefinitely would be terrifying. Bette finding Tina was her saving grace and was the only way she could truly survive the experience. But even this was not permenant, Bette had some ability to go back and then return. But my understanding is that the portal closes permanently with this last trip. At least that is what the Professor is predicting based on some science principles which have yet to be tested much less proven.

I know you have spent years writing this. I do appreciate it. I do hope that you do an epilogue and not leave us with a cliffhanger as to what actually happened. Our girls deserve a happy, peaceful and normal life.

      Thanks for the story…

      • Thank you for the insightful comment. Yes, the last chapter was not the actual finale, that’s why the epilogue is coming up. Apart from being a teaser (a little bit ;) ) I also wanted to stay true to my story (the way some of my chapters were structured in the past.) Thank you for reading, i really appreciate it

      • Haha, you put that idea into my head when you suggested 50 parts of the finale. Alas, i can only manage 4. The epilogue is coming and that will a final end to the story. I really appreciate your comments. Honestly, one of the earlier comments you made (maybe 10-15 chapters ago (which probably puts it 5 years ago LOL), is one of the reasons that made me going…the other reason that i’m a stubborn foreigner that wouldn’t just never give up…thank you
