Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 28, Part 1

“My heart tells me that you are so beautiful that I want nothing more than to kiss you but my mind tells me that I can’t because I don’t want the light bulb inside you to break.”

    “Huh?”

    “It was a joke, Tina.”

“Well, it was a stupid joke if you ask me…oh, I’m sorry baby, I didn’t mean to offend you,” Tina was surprised that Bette was laughing at her statement. “You are not mad?”

“No, because it was a stupid joke and I just wanted to see if you would be honest and open enough with me to tell me that.”

“Honest but insensitive…I actually think that you are a pretty funny lady.”

“Okay, now you are lying to me.”

“Maybe a little,” Tina laughed again, “Just get your gorgeous butt over here and kiss me.”

Bette didn’t need another invitation. She hurriedly jumped on the bed and excitedly wrapped her arms around Tina. After several delightful minutes of kissing and whispering, Tina regretfully disengaged herself from Bette’s arms.

“We better stop this if we want to visit the CAC today. I’m going to call Alice because she’s meeting us there. Maybe we can meet at 12 and it will give us two hours to get ready and stop by the Planet for a late breakfast before going to the museum.”

“Okay,” Bette said, wishing that they could just stay home and cuddle but excited to go to the CAC at the same time.

While Bette was taking a shower, Tina called Alice and arranged for her to meet them at the CAC. Alice began complaining about her new assignment at the Women’s Medical Center and she kept Tina on the phone for almost half an hour, until Tina finally was able to put a stop to her friend’s nagging.

She walked back into the bedroom and watched for awhile as Bette was drying her hair. “By the way, Bette,” she said cautiously, “I’m going to introduce you as Kit Porter’s half sister.”

“What?” Bette replied, baffled at the idea.

“You see, Kit’s father had an affair with a Swiss girl who got pregnant and passed away soon after giving a birth to a baby girl. The child was adopted but died as well and Kit only found out about all this a year ago. Melvin, Kit’s father, doesn’t know about it and he never acknowledged that the child was his. Her name was Elsa, which is short for Elizabeth and she was bi-racial, like you. I think it’s a destiny. You lost your sister Katie and Kit had never seen her sister and she’s really devastated about it. And most important, Kit is Katie’s descendant. So you see, it’s all connected in some bizarre way, as Alice would say, and it’s a perfect explanation…it’s the only explanation of your presence here without any documents and looking like Elizabeth Porter from 1885.”
