    Tina nodded, Okay. So, what about my surprise?

    Bette grinned. Oh, thats still coming. Ill give it to you both after we talk.

    Both?, asked Tina.

    You and the little you., said Bette, gesturing to the baby.

    Tina still looked confused, but simply nodded in response.

    Dont worry, baby. Well be home in a little while., said Bette, rubbing Tinas thigh reassuringly before starting the engine and heading for home.

    When Bette was gone, Franklin walked back to his office, his head hanging low. He slid down into his chair and called Helena Peabody.

    Franklin, so nice of you to call, she said.

    Franklin spoke simply, Its done.

    He could feel her smiling over the phone. Excellent. Ill have those funds transferred tomorrow. Its been a pleasure doing business with you.

    Franklin smiled weakly, his stomach churning at his own traitorous behavior. Yeah. Its been a pleasure.

    Alice stared at her cell phone, refusing to call her girlfriend. Dana wanted space and space was what she was going to get. However, this didnt stop the blonde reporter from staring at her phone and willing it ring. She sighed at its silence and resettled herself on her couch, grabbing the half-gallon of ice-cream she was using to drown her sorrows and flicking through the cable stations looking for something to distract her restless mind. As she lay there, clad in her pajamas, she wondered, Is she really breaking up with me? Why do I feel this way about her? Why doesnt she seem to feel the same way about me? I dont know if shes ever loved me at all. We have great *****.but thats not enough. I love Dana. Id do anything for her. I dont really think she feels the same way about me.

    Alice sighed deeply and guided another scoop of chocolate cookie chip dough ice cream to her mouth.

    Jenny heard Shane leave for her date with Carmen and tried in vain to stop the cloak of inadequacy that began to cover her soul. She was happy for Shane. After all, the soft-spoken and warm-hearted brunette was her best friend and Jenny knew that with Shanes troubled past, happiness and peace was long overdue for her best friend. This knowledge didnt stop the pain which began in the pit of her soul and radiated out to all parts of her small body.
