Chapter One

The first day in any situation can be difficult and nerve wrecking especially when one has been working hard to make it into medical school. Yale, has been long known as a difficult school to enter let allow afford. Tina Kennard was a first generation in her that made it out of her small town in North Carolina to attend college, and with great pride her parents re mortgaged their home to let their eldest child go. Tina held her education with great pride as her dad was a union man whom worked at the local automobile plant and her mom a florist in the local mall. Her parents Rick and Anne were high school sweethearts that married right after graduation and had a family of three children Tina, Rick Jr. and Andrew. Tina worked hard through high school to get the marks she needed to attend a good college where she spent four years at Boston College and her dreams came true when the acceptance to medical school arrived in the mail nearly 4 months ago. As Tina walked before the medical school building at Yale she held her breathe…here she was. She felt sick, excited and happy all at once. She made a promise to do well and succeed no matter what the situation.  

Meanwhile in a pleasant New Haven townhouse, Bette Porter was stretching in bed and looking over her shoulder to see if her overnight guest was still in the bed next to her. Alice was a girl she had met at the previous nights outing to the local bar where most medical residents went to drink their sorrows, stress and sleep deprivation away. Bette was in her first year residency program and she was in surgical stream, her path towards being a surgeon was her goal. Her personality was well suited to the task and she had excellent skills so much so she was being taken under the wing of the great neuro-surgeon Dr. Elizabeth Kraft. Bette lusted after Dr. Kraft both mentally and physically as the woman whom no one knew much about was brilliant and beautiful, a rarity in such professions. Bette was certain she would be able to bed the ever so lovely Dr. Kraft. As Bette laid under the covers day dreaming, Alice’s head popped up looking for Bette. "Bette?", she said cautiously. Bette turned and pretended to be sleeping whilst Alice decided to get up and go to the bathroom. Bette hated the morning after a night with someone new. There was a difference with Alice as first she still remembered her name and secondly she was still in bed with her and did not fake an on-call paging to have her leave.
