    Love Revisited – Coming Home Part 47a

      yeah, and I hope to whatever, our good guy peers are more plentiful than her peers

    Nancy turned and walked through the revolving doors.

    Ladies and gentlemen, your attention to the Center Ring – the main attraction is about to begin

    * * *

    The first jury pool of fifty people were seated in the courtroom of the Honorable Baruch S. Seidman.  The judge had just finished giving the jury instructions and a synopsis of what they can expect in the jury selection process.

    Faye Buckley was seated at defense table with her attorney, Stan Peakes.

    The DA and defense counsel each had the jury list with names in front of them.  Each prospective juror fills out a basic questionnaire so counsel do have a little history regarding each one.  Each counsel also has a certain number of peremptory challenges to have jurors excused.  Counsel does not need to give a reason when using these challenges.    Each side has an unlimited number of challenges for cause.  For example, a juror who is related to or employed by one of the parties in the case may be excused for cause.

    Nancy Richardson had her assistant seated next to her.  She was ready.

    Stan Peakes had an assistant with him also.  He was ready.  As ready as he could be with an uncooperative, angry client.  It’s almost as if she’s angry Bette Porter didn’t die, he thought.  Like she would be a martyr to her radical right cause if she had rid the earth of Bette Porter.  One less ***** to defend herself and her believers against.

    Her anger went beyond the debate. There was a personal vendetta, he just knew it.  She refused to talk about anything.  She told him just go to trial and the jury will decide.   And the process for that is about to begin.

    * * *

    The first potential juror was called.

    Nancy told each prospective juror a basic outline of the case: The type of crime, where it happened, the fact it involved the Director of a museum which sometimes displayed provocative art; the defendant was a member and in fact a leader in a conservative rights group.   And it will be made known to them that the victim is *****, she is a *****.
