Listen to your heart – Ch3

Bette stood frozen in the middle of her ultra-modern apartment. In the background Kit sang on unheard as her latest CD progressed through its tracks. Bettes gaze was fixed on the yellow roses in her hands. Shed picked them up on the way home thinking how cheerful they looked.

She wasnt sure what upset her most; that she had Tinas favourite flowers in her hands or that shed picked them up without immediately thinking of Tina.

It had been 3 years, 7 months and, she squinted slightly as she calculated, 15 days since that day when theyd walked away from each other for the last time. She was afraid she was forgetting Tina and yet at the same time she was afraid shed never forget her and never be able to move on.

As she stood there the phone rang but she didnt move to pick it up, eventually she heard Alices voice Bette..pickup if youre theretheres a party tonight..a new nightclub opening..Ive managed to get tickets..are you free? Give me a call.

The call broke Bette out of her reverie; she moved to the kitchen, found a tall glass vase and arranged the roses placing them in the middle of the table. She looked around the apartment; there wasnt much that Tina would recognise if she came back. Shed ditched almost everything, kept only a few of the larger pieces of furniture and some of her favourite paintings and sculptures that shed collected over the years.

She sighed; maybe it was time she moved on. Three and a half years was a long time to wait for someone when youd had no sign that they ever wanted to speak to you again.

Of courses when she said wait, she hadnt been celibate; shed just not sought out anything permanent, happy with one night stands or brief affairs which she broke off when the other party became too serious.

Because Bette knew that while she was able to offer ***** and sometimes love her heart still belonged to someone else.

Five more months, she bargained with herself, just until the end of the year and then shed move on if Tina hadnt contacted her.

She moved to get a coffee telling herself that shed really had enough coffee today but preparing one anyway. The phone rang again; it would be Alice shed have rung her mobile and been diverted back here. She wouldnt pick up; shed have a coffee and think about tonight. Maybe shed just stay home and read a book.
