Tina waits in the car line for Jess to get out of school. Ms. Patterson taps on Tina’s passenger window. Tina rolls the window down.

“Ms. Kennard?” Ms. Patterson bends over to talk to Tina.

    “Yes.”

    “Can you come with me?”

“Is there something wrong?” Tina gets out of the car.

“Ms. Brown would like to speak with you for a moment.” They walk down the hall. Jess sat on the wooden bench that she had become familiar with over the past two years. Ms. Patterson motions for Tina to go into the office.

“Ms. Kennard?” Ms Brown offers her hand to Tina to shake.

“Yes. Is there something wrong with Jess?” She said taking Ms. Brown’s hand.

“Won’t you come in and sit down?” Tina followed Ms. Brown into her office with a confused look on her face.

“It seems that we have a little problem.” Tina braced herself for something horrible.

“Okay.” Tina said remembering the upset look on Jess’s face and the same look on the woman that sat next to her as she walked by.

“I tried to get in touch with her mother this morning but was unable to reach her.”

“She is on a business trip. I am staying with Jess until she gets back on Saturday.” Tina adjusted in her chair.

“I know, I just got off the phone with Ms. Porter, she wants me to call her back when you got here.” Tina got a really worried and scared look on her face.

    “Well what’s the problem?”

Ms. Brown wiped a tear from her face. This mad Tina even more nervous. Ms. Brown picked up the phone and dialed. She handed the receiver to Tina.

    “Hello.”

“Baby what’s wrong?” Tina knew that there was something seriously wrong.

“It’s Andy.” She paused gaining the strength to finish.

    1. For Jess and Bette, I’m glad that Tina was there for them both, because she loves them both and that is good for everyone. Love your story. Thanks for the post.

    2. So sad. Poor Jess and Bette. Tina is doing a great job with Jess. Jess’s description of heaven really did help her deal with her dad’s death. Thanks for the update, please continue.
