Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 26C

“Worse.”  Tina rolled her eyes so that Theresa saw her.  What did it matter who felt worse?  Theresa turned and headed down the hall and Tina rolled her eyes for a third time.

Tina picked up her cell phone and purse and said, “Why won’t he call again?”

“He will, Ms. Kennard.  These types of perps like to have contact.  I suspect he’ll call soon.”  The cop said, looking up from the Vogue magazine that he had found on the table.

Tina looked at her friends and once she got Kit, Dana, Alice, and Carmen’s attention, she motioned with her eyes and head for them to follow her to the back to her bedroom.

Alice’s response was inquisitive.  She cocked her head wondering what Tina had in mind.

“Mah-cus.  I will be right back.  Mah friends are going to help me change.”

    Marcus nodded.

The group of women walked down the hall.  In Tina and Bette’s bedroom, Carmen walked to the closet and looked at the clothes.  “Which side is yours?”

“You can’t guess?” Tina said with a smile.

On the left were tunics, flared cotton pants, drawstring pants, peasant tops, so many bright colors, and several dark and hip suits.  On the right side–ultra feminine blouses, tops that looked more like art pieces than clothes, beautiful and elegant dresses, and tailored dress slacks.  The dominant colors were black, grey, and white and everything had a designer label.  “Left side,” Carmen said.

    “You got it.”

Kit looked around the room at the multitude of photographs of Angelica next to a few of Bette and Tina together and a couple of photos of the three of them taken while Tina was still at the Center.    She smiled when her eyes fell onto a photo of Tina standing in front of a lake, a cast on her leg, and a huge grin on her face.  She remembered that this was the first picture she had seen of Tina.  Bette had stopped over at her apartment to show her the photograph of the woman who had all of her attention and whom she had fallen in love with.  Kit warned her to stay away from straight women and reminded her of a relationship debacle with a straight woman Bette had had the year before.  Bette didn’t care.  This woman was the real deal, Bette had said, and then she asked if Kit thought their father would like her.  Kit couldn’t believe Bette’s naiveté on all counts.  Her sister and this woman wouldn’t last and Daddy would never approve.  She had been half wrong.  It wasn’t until Melvin was taking his last breath that he accepted Tina in his daughter’s life, but her sister and Tina had made it work.  In spite of Bette’s seven year itch, they still loved each other, perhaps even more than before.  She looked at the other photographs and saw the many years of love captured on film.

    1. i am once again left speechless at your incredible ability to weave a tale. i actually yelped in excitement when Angie was safe but at the same time, believe it or not, felt somewhat sorry for Josh. only your writing could evoke that somewhat schizophrenic sympathy.I’m also a bit worried at the introduction of Jodi into the story but hope that after all that we’ve been through with Bette and Tina to date, she will not pose a threat to their relationship.as for all of the other characters and their stories, i am finding them entertaining and interesting as well which is not usually the case when reading as i’m pretty much just a Tina/Bette fan. this again, is testimony to your ability to ability to entertain.thanks again for the story and the time and effort that must be involved. looking forward as always to reading more.

    2. I’ve spent the past two days reading the whole thing, and honestly? It’s great. Really, really great. The characters are well written and adhere to canon, your reweaving of the events of Season 3 into this alternative version is not only really well done, but in my mind — preferable. As for the Jodi issue, if she’s like every other non-core character in your work (herself, but changed), I’ll be very happy to see where that goes. I do wonder, though, moments after Bette is reunited with Tina and her baby for the first time in weeks, she wanders off to talk to Jodi? That seems a little… I don’t know, inhuman? But, hey, if that’s my only complaint in 26 chapters, consider it an amazing feat. I’m a huge Danish fan, and I’m happy to see you keeping the love alive. Would love to see more of that relationship in your writing, but generally I think the chapters are fairly good about being even with their time. You’re prolific. Are you really spitting out this much in three days? Because if so, that’s incredible. I mean, really, really exceptional. Thanks for writing this, it’s a great read, and I can’t wait to see more of it.

    3. Thank goodness Angelica is safe. I’m glad Boden was there. Um, not too excited about Jodi showing up in this story :). Can’t wait for the celebration…hope everyone gets a little ‘private celebration’ time . You’ve really spoiled us this last week Portia. Thanks for this wonderful fic and don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Bette better mess up of jodi!! yeah for angie being okay… now it’s time for the port-kennards to get on with their lives. tina needs to finish her rehab.i wonder what else steph. did what else is she hiding??? great update!!:)

    5. Ahhhh… I can breathe now. That was tense, but Baby A is safe, finally! I’m so glad there was a third person there and Boden clocked that whining maggot Josh. Although, I think Bette would have ripped him apart eventually anyway. Hels is leaving, which is a shame, but her heart’s somewhere else… So! Ol’ Steph’s about to get her comeuppance, big time. I hope Peter gets his money back, as well as his furniture. I’m dreading the stuff coming out that was on that list of hers. Girl needs help, if she can survive prison. This was so good, I can’t wait for the next post. thanks Portia.
