Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 26C

She stood at the kitchen island and composed a note to Dylan on her laptop.

    D (Darling D),

My flight arrangements: I come in from Frankfurt.  I’ve spent some time puzzling over your Good Day and I do understand.  I’ll find you.  I hope tomorrow will be an especially Good Day when I walk in and see your face.

    With all my love,

    H

Bette and Tina stood inside the cabin with their backs to the front door.  They needed to keep Josh watching them and talking.  Bette’s only response was to blink when she glanced into the kitchen and saw Boden’s arm reach out, pick up Angelica in her car seat from the table, and hold the seat against his leg as he slowly backed up to the door he had entered.  He opened the door just wide enough to get the car seat out and onto the deck.  Seconds later, Boden was back in the cabin, squatting behind a structural beam.  He could be easily seen, but if Josh turned around, he would expect someone standing behind him, meeting him eye-to-eye. Boden waited for his moment.

Tina had seen Boden’s successful movements, too. Her eyes met Bette’s.  The furtive glance was quick, but Bette saw that glimmer that Tina got when things had turned out as desired.  Bette smiled lightly at Tina.  She loved that look on her face.  Tina looked confident, sexy, and the creases that had covered her face magically lifted.  Angelica was safely outside.  They didn’t care what happened to Brecker now.

Ven. Rajani’s teachings didn’t cross Bette’s mind.  He was her opponent, not an extension of herself.  He was someone to bring down, not someone she’d hold in a compassionate embrace.  He was going to pay.  Bette crossed her arms and glared at him.

“Josh, you shouldn’t have done this,” Tina said clearly.  Every word correctly pronounced and enunciated well.

“Maybe not.”  He pointed at Bette.  “But-but she needed to see how it felt to lose everything.”

“You took our child.  You know you can’t get away with that.”  Tina shook her head at him, scolding him as if her were a juvenile delinquent.

    1. i am once again left speechless at your incredible ability to weave a tale. i actually yelped in excitement when Angie was safe but at the same time, believe it or not, felt somewhat sorry for Josh. only your writing could evoke that somewhat schizophrenic sympathy.I’m also a bit worried at the introduction of Jodi into the story but hope that after all that we’ve been through with Bette and Tina to date, she will not pose a threat to their relationship.as for all of the other characters and their stories, i am finding them entertaining and interesting as well which is not usually the case when reading as i’m pretty much just a Tina/Bette fan. this again, is testimony to your ability to ability to entertain.thanks again for the story and the time and effort that must be involved. looking forward as always to reading more.

    2. I’ve spent the past two days reading the whole thing, and honestly? It’s great. Really, really great. The characters are well written and adhere to canon, your reweaving of the events of Season 3 into this alternative version is not only really well done, but in my mind — preferable. As for the Jodi issue, if she’s like every other non-core character in your work (herself, but changed), I’ll be very happy to see where that goes. I do wonder, though, moments after Bette is reunited with Tina and her baby for the first time in weeks, she wanders off to talk to Jodi? That seems a little… I don’t know, inhuman? But, hey, if that’s my only complaint in 26 chapters, consider it an amazing feat. I’m a huge Danish fan, and I’m happy to see you keeping the love alive. Would love to see more of that relationship in your writing, but generally I think the chapters are fairly good about being even with their time. You’re prolific. Are you really spitting out this much in three days? Because if so, that’s incredible. I mean, really, really exceptional. Thanks for writing this, it’s a great read, and I can’t wait to see more of it.

    3. Thank goodness Angelica is safe. I’m glad Boden was there. Um, not too excited about Jodi showing up in this story :). Can’t wait for the celebration…hope everyone gets a little ‘private celebration’ time . You’ve really spoiled us this last week Portia. Thanks for this wonderful fic and don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Bette better mess up of jodi!! yeah for angie being okay… now it’s time for the port-kennards to get on with their lives. tina needs to finish her rehab.i wonder what else steph. did what else is she hiding??? great update!!:)

    5. Ahhhh… I can breathe now. That was tense, but Baby A is safe, finally! I’m so glad there was a third person there and Boden clocked that whining maggot Josh. Although, I think Bette would have ripped him apart eventually anyway. Hels is leaving, which is a shame, but her heart’s somewhere else… So! Ol’ Steph’s about to get her comeuppance, big time. I hope Peter gets his money back, as well as his furniture. I’m dreading the stuff coming out that was on that list of hers. Girl needs help, if she can survive prison. This was so good, I can’t wait for the next post. thanks Portia.
