Just The Girl, Stories: Redwind Revisited (Anger Management)

“Like hell there’ll be a marriage!”

“..then comes Tina with a baby carriage.”

    “Dream on Porter!”

“Oh I’m dreaming, alright. Every single night.”

“Then that’s the only place where I’ll ever give you the time of day.”

“Says the woman who’s desperately in love with me.”

    “I AM NOT IN LOVE!”

    “Fine, you’re just desperate.”

    “I resent that!”

    “You resent everything.”

    “I resent that too.”

    “See?”

    “I’m not a pessimist!”

    “I agree, you’re more of a cynic.”

    “I’m not!”

    “Unfortunately, you kinda are.”

    “I hate you.”

“You know, you say that everyday..”

    “Cause its true.”

“Even so. But I have to tell you, it’s effect kinda diminishes the more you say it.”

    “So?”

“I don’t feel discouraged about it anymore.”

    “Well you should be.”

    “I’m just saying.. I’m not.”

    “Hmph.”

“There you go with your monosyllabic words again.. if hmph is even a word.”

    Sigh. “Porter?”

    “Yes?”

“What you told me a while back, did you really mean it?”

“I always mean what I say.. well.. except when I’m really angry. But which one are you talking about?”

“When you told me that you’re going to try really hard to make me like you..”

“Then I meant that. Absolutely meant it.”

“So.. is annoying me every single day how you show how hard you’re working to do that?”

    “Well.. uh.. yeah.. I guess.”

    “…”

    “Admit it, it’s working.”

“How is this..” Tina motioned between the both of us, at our bickering/bantering forms. “..considered working?”

    “We’re talking.”

“And that’s a victory for you?”

“Of course. It beats you not talking to me.”

“I can ignore you if I wanted to.” Tina harrumphed.

“So the fact that you’re not ignoring me now means that you don’t want to ignore me?”

“That’s not what I said! Stop twisting my words.”

    “I’m not twisting anything.”

    “Then don’t jump into conclusions.”

“I’m not jumping into anything either.”

    “Bette Porter, you’re insufferable!”

“That’s not what other people say.”

“That’s cause those other people are spineless cowards who like to suck up to you and kiss your ass.”
