“My smile?”
“Oh God.. please stop looking at me with that scary smile on.”
“Scary? But this is how I usually smile..”
“I know.”
“Why is it scary?”
“It just is.”
“Oh, c’mon!”
“Seriously, it’s creepy.”
“You’re just pulling my leg.”
“I’m not. There’s just something wrong with your smile. I dunno, it kinda reminds me of those sinister-looking grins that villains have in movies.”
“You think I’m a villain?”
“Why, you think you’re not?”
“I’m not!”
“Well you certainly act like one.”
“…”
“Guilty, much?”
“I.. well.. I guess. But I’ve changed.”
“People can’t change overnight.”
“Not all people..”
“A leopard can’t change its spots.”
“Thank God I’m not a leopard then.”
“…”
“Tongue-tied?”
“Speechless.”
“In a good way?”
“You wish.”
“Am I annoying you?”
“Is the sky blue?”
“Nah, it’s kinda dark out. I think it’s gonna rain.”
“…”
“You look really pretty when you glare at me like that..”
“…”
“And when you roll your eyes that way..”
“…”
“Ow!”
“…”
“And when you punch my arm.”
“You know Porter, when God decided to make the perfect jerk, he really took his time creating you, huh?”
“Uh-huh. That’s why I’m special like that.”
“Ugh!”
“You’re cute when you blush..”
“I’m not blushing!”
“Your cheeks are red..”
“–and so is the rest of my face Porter. For your information, there’s a big difference between blushing and fuming mad.”
“There is?”
“Agh!”
“You know, your monosyllabic ways of expressing emotions is pretty endearing..”
“Hmph.”
“See?”
“Can you please just close your mouth and keep quiet?”
“I can’t.”
“Why not?”
“Cause I still have something important to say to you.”
“What the hell is it?!”
“One of the buttons on your blouse is undone.”
“…”
“I like your bra.”
“…”
“Can I take a closer look? I just like to take a peek at the brand.”
“Uggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!”
“Ouch!”
She had me hook, line and sinker. I was a goner. My volatile temper was like an oven that she could control with a dial – with a sly quip she’d rile me up to LOW, push me away and annoy me to MEDIUM, till she’d do something completely unforgivable and drive me to HIGH; but then, she’d smile mischievously, or look at me with those hazel eyes, and just like that, my temper dial switches off and my head’s all calm and cool again. She would ignite my temper, and then douse it just like that. You have to admit, that was pretty amazing. She was amazing.
