Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Twenty Five

“So you planted the green egg when we had that lunch date?”

    “Mm-hmm..”

“And you were so sure I’d choose it..”

“Of course,” Bette shrugged. “Green’s your favorite.”

    “It is.” Tina smiled.

“You know..” Bette began, looking thoughtfully at their entwined hands. “I asked your dad for advice this morning about the whole “egg” plan of mine, since it wasn’t going as well as planned. You know what he said?” Her lips curved, remembering Ken’s words. “Today is as good as any other day. There is no perfect one – only days that are better than the rest because you make them that way. If you can’t win the egg through the normal, traditional method, then just break the fucking glass and claim what is yours.”

    “Daddy said that?”

    “Yup.”

“God, I told you he’s capable of wisdom when he’s lucid.”

“Actually, I think he was drunk.” Bette pointed out, remembering Ken’s alcohol breath.

Tina rolled her eyes at her unsupervised father’s teenage-like behavior. She frowned her brows in thought before looking at her fiancé. “Heeeyy.. you mean to say that if you had only come to my dad for advice first, we could’ve been married already by now?”

    “Most probably.”

“Damn.” Tina breathed out in regret. She sighed and looked at Bette. And immediately, her pout gave way to a smile. Who cares if they were a year late, the important thing was that it was going to happen soon enough. “We’re going to get married.” She wagged her brows, wearing the silliest grin.

“We are.” Bette beamed, pressing her forehead against the blonde’s. “We really are.”

Once again, their lips met in a tender kiss. Whatever celebration they had going on was mirrored by their friends down below. Cause in a ride which once started their future together as a couple, a new history was forged with the promise of forever.

    ——————-

“I should start getting used to calling you by something else..”

    “Like what?”

    “I dunno.. Tee maybe?”

    “Tee?”

Bette shrugged. “Kennard-Porter is a mouthful.”

“What should I call you? B?”

    “Sam calls me that.”

    “Okay.. how ’bout BeeBee?”

    “…”

    “You don’t like it, huh?”

“Sounds like a name you would give a pet..”

“I guess so.. wait.. how ’bout Betty?”

“Like the band? Stop it before I end up resenting you.”

    Tina laughed.

    Bette sighed. “Tee?”

    “Yes babe?”

    “Call me Porter.”

    “Okay. Porter?”

    “Hm?”

    “Stick to Kennard.”

    “But–”

    “It’s our thing.”

Bette thought about it, puckered her lips and then acquiesced. “You’re right.”

    “I’m always right.”

“That’s why I’m gonna marry you.” Bette smiled and leaned in for another kiss. “But baby..”

    “Hm?”

“There’s still no fucking way I’m gonna allow you to name our kids.”
