Je t’aime (part 1 of 3)
“Hey,” Tina smiled as her cell phone burst to life, displaying Bette’s name, “how’s New York?”
Bette sighed, settling back into the seat of the cab, “Snowy and cold,”
Tina pictured it, “Nice,”
Her voice carried an air of remembrance, their last visit there together in the lead up to Christmas, when Bette put all her stuffiness aside and allowed Tina to lead her out like a fawn onto the ice rink in Central Park, willing and prepared to make a fool out of herself for the one she wholly loved,
“There’s not quite as much snow as the last time we were here …” Bette replied, recalling the memory aloud,
Tina smirked, “No? … so, how was your flight?”
“Bearable, how was yours?”
Tina paused, the question a reminder that her body had jumped forwards half a day in time, and what was day felt like night and her night had been day and as a consequence she hadn’t properly slept, “Eugh …” she groaned, “okay I suppose, worth the first class ticket but I still didn’t sleep much,”
“But you can rest in Cannes, right?” Bette checked, slightly concerned for her welfare,
Tina grinned, laying back in the seat and closing her eyes as Bette’s voice did as it always did and soothed her, “Yeah … how are you, anyway?” she asked as an afterthought, in tune to the upset in Bette’s voice at what she had to do that day,
Bette sighed, “I’m okay, it’s just that Sandra Gering is a friend of mine,”
Tina nodded, “I know,”
It didn’t need to be said, but Bette felt embarrassed by her girlfriend’s actions of late, especially when forced to go crawling into the headquarters of old adversaries turned friends, who she knew respected her opinions greatly. When her actual own opinion on the matter was torn, between her gut instinct to protect Jodi’s integrity, and her loyalty to the school and its growing reputation,
“I don’t even know what I’m going to say,” said Bette wearily, “at this point if I don’t do everything I can to make them change their minds, Jodi’s going to loose her job regardless,” she paused, “it’s passed the point of sending her in to fend for herself,”

Well shit girl, get your ass on the concorde and head out. I would have already been out the door. And being the girl that is always prepared I know Bette has her passport with her.

that cahpter was so powerful and emotional, yet sweet.. aweeee love the alice reference to buffy slaying, lol… :)
Gee, you writing skill has just grown by leaps and bounds since “Family Vacation”. Amazing! Thanks!
Since Tina asked so sweetly, heck she was begging. Get your skinny butt on the plane . go aftwe your babys Momma. thanks
I want to go to Paris after reading this chapter and their banter. PPS.
babe, i’ve had too much wine, i’m going to have to re-read and comment intelligently tomorrow. but i must say…love it…well, you already showed it to me and i already complimented you on it, but i think its inspired, how you keep painting these dialogues the way you do. its really like painting, how you write, everything flows together like perfectly combined colors on a canvas. ok, i’m going to shut up now, cuz i’m gushing again. but i don’t care, i’ll gush all i like. you’re a poet. hehe. ok, i’ll comment again tomorrow. but for the record: pfft on henry. lol. oh, right…intelligence..tomorrow…maybe later tonite;) xo baby, sweet dreams.
Love the story! Can’t wait to read more.
Bring on Paris…..love this story!
Thank you so much for this lovely story. I just love the pacing of your writing and the way Tina and Bette talk with one another. Even though you show Bette’s flaws and confusion; I certainly wish she had spoken to Jodi much earlier. Still there’s such love and understanding in your portrayal of Bette.
more,more,more of your wonderful story.
I am so loving this!!!!! B&T in Paris!!!! Thank you
Much better than flowers or candy! Thanks for the alluring Valentine’s treat. Anxious for part 2. Happy Valentine’s Day, sofa!
oh yeah, i liked the invisible string also. it shows up in english lit and in your writing in beautiful ways…as a concept, i think it shows how connected you are to the energy of the characters. which you know i love about your writing. i’m glad these two are taking their time, i like how you pace it. seriously, thats probably the best part for me. cool lady, more more;) when you get time of course!
yay bring on a Paris reunion…love it.
Hey there! “She dreamt strange dreams involving Jenny and Bette, the latter being the radical force who seemed the only one capable in her dream of shutting Jenny up, and as the train approached Lyon Tina awoke with a start, her brain filled with images of Bette as she came to Tina’s rescue once again, driving a wooden stake through Jenny’s bloodless heart.” LOL! Brilliant!
This post made me smile lots, and then just be in awe of your writing. Can’t wait for the next, thanks
Bette realizing that Jodi wasn’t the one she truly loved and that she was only herself with Tina is brilliant. It was sad that Jodi had to be the one to have the stones to break things off, but I am glad that Bette didn’t cave into saying something she didn’t mean. I hope that we get to see Bette and Tina’s reconciliation in Paris.
Awwwww! This is sooo sweet and sooo cute and you’re sooo gooood! Seriously! “The invisible string which drew them together seemed ever tauter, stronger, like a pull which began to feel as if it were attached to that centre of her being again and not just to her heart, a sensation which made her sigh with pain, wanting nothing more than to abandon her trip and whisk Tina off somewhere, rediscover the romantic gestures in her heart which only came out to play when the two of them were at their best, falling head over heels in love with each other again.” => Great, poetic passage! Brava, Sofa! “I don’t think I ever really stopped loving you …” Bette answered quietly, her words like a song inside Tina’s addled mind.” => I think every die-hard TiBetter is dying to hear Bette to whisper this line to Tina in the show. After all this couple has been through, this is like every TiBetter’s secret mantra: they’ve never stopped and will never ever cease loving each other. “Bette nodded to herself, the thought of just seeing her rushing through her like an incredible force of energy, tingling her fingers down her spine to her toes, as if Tina were kissing her right there and then, warming her body through and through.” => My toes and fingers actually tingled while I was reading these lines. “You should come to France. You should come to New York. Come to Paris?” => YES! That’s what I’d call a perfect compromise. Thanks for this gem, Sofa! Can’t wait to read about their Paris tryst. PPS and Happy Hearts’ Day, btw! ;->
Sofa, I believe this has been my best Valentine’s gift today. What a beautiful story and Paris…the perfect place to rekindle their relationship.
I loooooove this story…. (Totally indpendent of the fact that you’re heading toward a reconciliation in the city of love, my favorite city, my town… PARIS! … Nothing to do wih it! ;) Anyway, this tale is amazing and can’t wait to read the next post! Thanks! (By the way, the taxi driver’s reaction about the suitcase was quite right! But they tend to get a tiny bit better…)
THAT WAS GREAT!
awwweeee I get so sappy over stories like this, yes on one hand Bette was basically cheating on Jodi but to me I don’t see it that way I mean it’s Tina for crying out loud. I hope Jodi is out the picture and im so ready to see how tibette is about to shut down Cannes, yah Bette is on her way
