Chapter 7
The Artist’s dinner
Are you coming to sit down? Bette walks up to Tina who is look at a picture
“Yeah. I just really like this one.”
“Oh, you’ve lost your earring. “ Bette smiles as she retrieves it from Tina’s hair.
Bette smile gently and opens her hand holding the earring, Tina removes it gently from Bette’s hand and says, ” Thank you.” I sure don’t want to lose it, these are my favorite pair”
Smiling her brightest smile Bette says “You’re welcome, Tina. Why don’t we go take our seats.” And gestures with her left hand towards the table.
Tina turns as she Bette places her hand in the middle of Tina’s back and then slides it down to touch the small of Tina’s back with her right hand.
They both shiver. Bette removes her hand quickly yet smoothly moves quickly to point Tina towards her seat. Tina’s seat which happens to be right next to Bette’s. Bette is to sit at the head of the table and Tina to her right and Eric to Tina’s right and Alice is sitting directly across from Tina. Tina doesn’t know that Bette is sitting at this end of the table until everyone takes their seats as a servers rings a bell indicating that dinner is to be served shortly.
‘Whoa, it’s going to be a long night’ thinks Tina.
As Bette is the last to sit Tina’s heart skips begins to beat faster. ‘Yeap a long night’
Tina lays in bed awake early Saturday morning. She didn’t sleep very much. Her thoughts last night as they had been every night over the past week were filled with Bette Porter. She thought about how she touched her and how it made her feel. They were innocent touches , but were they really? Did Bette mean anything by them other than being friendly. Maybe she’s just an affectionate person. Tina didn’t know. She didn’t know Bette very well. “But I’m going to get to know her, starting today” She says to herself and smiles.
‘I wonder what was up with Bette’s friend Alice. She kept looking across the table at me in the strangest way as if she was trying to do ESP , mind melt or something, It was so fucking weird. And when she asked me if I ever…uh….I about choked on the shrimp that I was eating and would have if Bette hadn’t done the Heimlich maneuver on me.‘
