Shane is starting to get creeped out. (Just then Dan slips into the room unnoticed by Bette.)  Shane looks over at Dan as she swallows hard and says, “Here let me rub your shoulders you look tense.  Bette have you been able to sleep at all?”  Shane lets out a sigh of relief seeing Dan.  He gives Shane thumbs up. 

Bette is still staring when she says, “Where’s Tina?  Why isn’t she here?  Did you tell her not to see me?  Are you keeping her away from me?”  Bette starts to yell loudly, “TINA, where are you?  Please don’t forget about me!  TINA I NEED YOU!”

Shane grabs Bette and gives her a bear hug.  “Honey Tina’s alright.  She’s talking to her mother on the phone.  She’ll be in shortly.  Please Bette just relax.  I’m here with you for now.  Tina asked me to stay with you until she gets back….  See you’re not alone. I won’t leave you.”  Shane strokes Bette’s hair.

Bette starts to get agitated.  “Tell them not to hurt me.  Please tell them to stop burning my feet.  I’m so tired.  I can’t think straight.  Where’s Tina?  I need Tina.  Don’t let them hurt Tina.  You can’t tell her what happened. She’ll hate me.  Oh no!  I forgot.  What am I going to do?  I have to think, I have to think.” Bette turns to Shane.  “Help me.  I have to get away.  Don’t let them in.  They’ll hurt you because you’re with me.  Go away…. I said GO AWAYYYY!!  What am I going to do?”

“Bette it’s Shane  ….  Please listen to me.”   (Shane is gently shaking Bette’s shoulders.)  “No one is going to hurt you.  I’m here for you.  Please don’t worry.”

Bette is blinking her eyes.. .”  (Dan mouths the words ‘She’s having a Flashback’ to Shane.)   “Shane I just saw Terri and that man.  Keep them away from me.  I don’t want to have sex with them.  He forced himself on me and Terri watched and laughed.  They made me have sex with both of them. (Bette starts to cry.)   Oh my God.  Don’t tell Tina!  Don’t tell Tina she’ll leave me.  She must never know.  Please!!!  Don’t ever tell her.  She’ll hate me forever.  What am I going to do?”  Bette continues, “Where’s Terri, she has pills.  She can make my head quit pounding.  Don’t come near me.”  (Bette notices Dan finally.  She is petrified.)  Dan comes forward and says, “Bette its Dan Foxworthy.  I’m here to help you.  Bette open your eyes for me (Dan lifts Bette’s face up by her chin.) “ See Bette it’s Dan Foxworthy, and here’s Shane your good friend.  We’re not going to let anyone hurt you.”  Shane pats Bette’s arm.   “Don’t tell Tina …  Don’t tell Tina  …  Please don’t ever tell her or she’ll leave me.  She’ll hate me.”  Bette said repeatedly as she’s holding her head.

“We promise we will never tell Tina about the man and Terri.  We swear!”  Dan and Shane mean it.  (Meanwhile Dan is checking to see if the restraints are in place as he’s fluffing up Bette’s bed pillows.)

Just then Kit walks in the room.  She acknowledges Shane and nods to Dan, and goes to the bed to see Bette.  “Baby Sis its Kit.  I’m here to see you.  (Kit gives her sister a kiss on the cheek.)  “Are you feeling all right?  Baby Girl can I get you anything?”

“I want to go home, please take me home!” (Bette grabs Kit’s hand)  ‘Tina can take me home.  Please get Tina; she’ll know what to do.”   Kit kisses Bette’s hand as she says, “Baby Girl you can’t go home right now.  Anyways, Tina is busy talking to Aaron, her boss.  You don’t want Tina to get in trouble do you?”  (Bette shakes her head ‘No.’)  Kit continues, “Now just lay back against the pillows and relax.  I’m going to go and get some coffee.  Shane is staying with you.  You’re not alone.”  (Kit bends down and kisses Bette on the forehead before she leaves.)  Bette starts pleading with Kit.  “You’re not coming back are you?  Why can’t I go home?  Tell me.  Kit you hate me too because of what I’ve done.  Please don’t leave me!!!”  (Dan motions to Kit to just leave without acknowledging Bette’s words.)

Shane is brushing Bette’s hair while Dan is writing down his observations of the past few minutes in his notebook.  (Schedule an AIDS test for Bette.)  A nurse arrives and introduces herself to Bette first.  (She takes Bette’s hand in hers.)   “Hello Bette my name is Patty, and I’m going to be your nurse for the rest of your stay here at the hospital.  I’m your private nurse.  Mrs. Kennard, Tina’s mother, asked me to take good care of you.”  Bette smiles and lets out a sigh of relief as she says thank you.

Five minutes later Dr.’s Lennon and Newman enter the room.  The deprogramming is about to begin.
